"I hope you're doing fine out there without me, because I'm not doing so good without you.."
How did he just stop caring?

I agree with Inquisitive Male. From my experiences, men can mask their emotions very easily compared to women. I know when I am upset everyone can see it immediately. My ex (who I am trying to get back!) can push his feelings away.
Did you guys talk about the possibility of a long distance relationship? Maybe he thought you wouldn't be open to it or something.
Honestly, I'm sure he does think about you, especially if you two were close. Plus, he wouldn't just wish you a happy thanksgiving if he wasn't thinking about you, right?
yeah some guys are like this and this is how they deal with it. they don't really have any sense of responsibility for the words they utter, but sometimes they do. who knows, he might be hurting but for his ego, he'd like to show he doesn't care or he truly doesn't. the fact is, you need to keep going forward. I went through a similar thing. I kept looking forward
Did you ever indicate that there is a future for your relationship even though he is moving long distance? Did you say that you can think of moving with him? Did you ask him what he wants?
No....he kind of just made the decision to move and that was it, I felt like an idiot telling him I would move with him...i mean if he wanted to be with me then he would've asked me himself right?
(a) he didn't stop caring, he just never started.
(b) he's doing what most men do and masking their emotions.
MY opinion, not yours.
Cheers.
