"Touch base?"

My guy friend said "I'll touch base with you later." last night when hanging up the phone with me. The phrase I get, but I don't get it coming from him because I've known him for 7 years and I've never once heard that out of his mouth. He's a guys guy and it's always, "I'll shout at ya later," or something like that. Does it mean he has something (important) to say? I was hanging out with my girl friends when he called... It's the weirdest thing I've heard him say and it's obviously still bothering me. Petty, I know. But it's so different I can't help but think there's a reason.

Maybe he's just changing up his vocabulary. I try out new catchphrases all the time,I once told a girl goobildity gobblidity and I don't even know what the hell that meant,needless to say we didn't talk much after I said that.

Why are you reading into that so much. It's just a different way of saying I"ll talk to you later.

There's no reason. Touch base means talk to you later. My dad always uses that term, and it doesn't mean anything special.
