What do I do if a girl says she wants to stay single?

i really really like this girl in my high school and for a while she was dating someone and then she broke up with him.

we started flirting for a long time and I began to like this girl a lot. but soon after her break up she told me that she had a crush on me, but was interested in another guy and wanted to see how that worked out, so I decided to wait patiently and show her that I would be better for her than the other guy. she slowly lost interest in him and I soon felt my chance was here. but today she told me that she just wanted to be single and she was sorry for leading me on. I asked her if I would ever have a chance with her and she said that she didn't know, it was neither a yes or a no, but she just didn't know right now.

i am pretty hurt and I feel kind of cheated. I waited my turn for her and now I don't even get one.

should I just be content with being her friend? I really don't want to but if I have to I would. please help me.

i don't want to hurt your feelings but honestly, I think that she is just leading you on.. I am a girl and I know these games. when she broke up with her boyfriend she was looking for something to distract her and she told you she had a "crush" on you to keep herself entertained and feeling secure, to have you as a back up.. if she was really interested she would of told you so and not tried something out with another guy first. when she told you maybe you have a chance to be together in the future she was just trying to not hurt your feelings like when she says she just wants to stay single. you need to try to detach yourself from her because your feelings will just get more intense and trust me you don't want that. she may even tell you she still has feelings for you but it's just a comfort/security thing, I have been there... sorry to be so upfront but I hope that helped!

Ok. she broke up with her boyfriend.

Think about it this way

Boyfriend = breakup = her liking another guy = you = another guy= want to be single.

See the pattern? There's always someone else. She probably knew you liked her and accepted her. By her telling you she had a crush on you. That would leave you drooling and waiting...

while she saw if the guy she thought was good for her would work out.

Its hard to see right now... She's stuck in the middle. She likes you and the other guy.

She doesn't know which is best for her. She's just going to make you wait for her. Because her biggest feelings might be with you. But those little feeling for the other guy might come back if you both were to hook up. So by her staying single. She wouldn't have to worry about the heart break.
