Ever regretted dumping someone for someone else?

My boyfriend just broke up with me and he lied about the reason why. He told me his dad is dying and he can't be in a relationship. He is actually dating someone else, a day after he broke it off with me.

I treated him like GOLD.

I made sure he was satisfied, I visited him at work to bring him dinners and coffee, I made sure I looked good for him, I mixed things up in the relationship, I didn't bitch about things that other girls did or fight needlessly. He dumped me for a better looking girl which makes me feel horrible, yet I doubt she is as intelligent.

Him and I are nerds - we love books, computers, gaming, philosophy etc.

I really can't believe he did this to me... At the beginning he was amazing and everything I could ever want in a guy... than he wanted to take breaks and he always came back... Than he stopped appreciating me, he got mean, he stopped texting, he became rude and inconsiderate...

Ever regretted breaking up with a girl who treated you really well?

Will he change?

I don't want him back... however he apparently did not lie about his dad dying. Apparently his dad is dying but that wasn't the reason for the breakup. This girl is apparently treating her coworkers (their coworkers) badly, so I guess she is not that good

were in the same boat, my ex dumped me for another girl..
they werent really close at first becasue in high school, the girl dated 2 people in every group of friends they have, so when the relationship ended, she ended no friends at all.
when the girl started going to our school, they became close.. especially when the girl's boyfriend dumped her, my ex became her shoulder to cry on, always ask him to hang out with her, i asked him about that he said she's doesn't have any friends and she just live down the street.
were both graduating, so we barely see each other..
i gave him time and space so he can focus on his studies..
but that cause him to fell for that girl while im "away"
i didn't expect that from him either, he was really nice guy, that kinda nerd type.. i dont what happen too..

but then i realized. he's not worthy of my love, I've been very supportive.. but i guess guys dont really appreciate that kind of love.

were the one who love more.. so they end up leaving us

just move on girl, be thankful that he let you go, bc that will give you an oppurtunity to meet someone better, better than him.

I appreciate that kind of love! I can't speak for every guy but I am sure there are others like me that do appreciate it.

Come to think of it, I went through the exact dilema your going through. My ex and I broke up and his excuse was that he thought it was be a good idea and he's not ready to be in a seriously commited relationship. We went out for a year and four months. Three weeks later, he's going out with this girl whos been flirting with him for three months. He actually kissed her the weekend after we broke up.

I also treated him with lots of respect, was always there for him, payed for him whenever he needed, and when we did get into fights I tried to resolve them asap. Not only that, but we lost our virginity to each other.

His current girlfriend, same one he dumped me for, is high maintenance, doesn't support what he wants, talks about me behind his back, and is annoying as hell. Now, I nor anyone else can believe he chose her after me, but what can I do.

I'm sure that eventually he will realize what a mistake he made, but until then I have moved on and am not speaking to him. I really do think that every guy regrets leaving a great girl, but we will never know for sure. Just hang in there girl!

I don't want him back... he treated me really bad... he even gave away gifts I gave to him and didn't feel sorry for it by any means. I have never been treated this bad by another human in my life, but his new girl does seem bitchy and high maintenance. I am more of a tom boy type girl - low maintenance, best friend type who doesn't worry about petty things...

He will regret it, how long did you guys date for? I think you should just give him time to see what life without you is like. It may take weeks, maybe even months, but just don't contact him for a while and see how he reacts to that. He sounds like a d*** though, and that you can do so much better. That is an awful thing to lie about.

We dated for a year, and he will be going through his dads death with her by his side... I really wanted to be the one to stand by him through that rough time because I have stood by him through so many ugly times. I don't know whether he will change and be this AMAZING boyfriend to her, but he is the most stubborn person I have ever met.

I have left a girlfriend because the grass was greener. However it was not and went back to my ex. I was young.
But i believe you should work things out and talk and believe in secound chances. However my relationship with another girl ended and i did not get a chance sadly there was no cheating just dispute and didn't see her for few weeks as lives hr and half away and i was working. Shame as always treated her well but she never said what issue was just walked away

When I was a teenager, I was that guy. I dumped my GF, who was absolutely perfect for me, for another girl just cause she looked prettier. It's not something I'm proud of, and it will never happen again, because I paid for it. I paid for it in both guilt and because the girl I dumped her for cheated on me, comes around. Like I said, it was valuable life's lesson that I will take with me my whole life.

Unfortunetely, he is 25 years old. I really thought he would choose me (his best friend who stood by him through everything) over a new party girl. I thought he would know better at this point in his life.

I have made the same mistake - dumped a good guy (yes we had issues in our relationship, but they were fixable). I will never do it again... ever...

He is immature, I think you deserve someone better and I'm sure you will find.

My advice is to try an forget him. I see you are an intelligent girl so finding something to spend the time won't be a problem.

What typically happens to guys like this? Do they change? Do they get better/nicer/more appreciative? He says he will change when his dad dies... whatever that means. I know I take responsibility for myself and change when I need to... not chock it up to "i will change when my dad dies"

I don't know, I'm not like this guy. But I've seen people like this never change over my life, but I've also witness seeing people like this change over 10 years... I think he is string you along with "I will change when my dad dies", it's a horrible excuse.

Haha I am not going back to him if that's what you are thinking. And honestly - I am a nerd :P Total and complete nerd. I think nerd girls have a good head on their shoulders when it comes to making their guys happy. We try harder and we do the research into how we can make them happy :P

Time will heal all wounds right? I personally have not regretted a breakup. You sound like a really great woman. He just didn't appreciate you I guess. He is your Grade A asshole. You will find someone who is much better and won't be an asshole.
