What's the difference between "talking" and dating someone?

Is there really a difference at all? Is it the preliminary stage before you date or what?

Here's the rule on that "talking" just means your talking to the person, you like each other but your not with them yet, so technically you could still see other people until its official. Dating someone is actual your boyfriend and girlfriend.
