If he sends long texts late at night, does it mean anything?

This guy and I have been working together for about 2 months now and have been texting over break, no flirting really, just friendly stuff. I really like him though he's hard to read. He doesn't ever flirt, but he sends texts up to 10+ lines like paragraphs, talking about his day, being funny, asking questions. He usually sends these at 2-3 am too.
I know he could just be chatty, but he's not that way in person, more analytical really. It's just that most of my guy friends text stuff like "hey" or "what's up?" Instead of investing so much time into it. Is this how you guys text girls you like, with long texts? Or all of your girl friends too?

It sounds like he is interested, but just a it clueless. Guys don't consistently text a girl for some time with big messages like that. The fact that he send them at times like 3 am also tells me that he is thinking about you basically all the time. I mean, he wouldn't text "just a friend" at 3 am.

The fact that he isn't that chatty in person could be because he is simply shy or not sure what to say. When texting, there is a lot less pressure as you can think about what you want to say. At the same time, flirting is not a thing that comes natural to all guys. I was like this myself too, happily chatting with a girl I liked but entirely clueless as to how to proceed.

Now, this is of course my interpretation of the situation and I could be wrong. Yet, I think there is a good way to test the waters. I suggest you start getting just slightly more flirty in some of your texts. If he is interested (which i really think he is) he will most likely try to follow your guidance and be more flirty too.

Thanks for such a detailed answer! It really put a grin on my face to think he returns the feeling. If he is clueless I'm equally so because with every text he sends, I pick them apart that much more before responding. It's sad and funny that he doesn't know how much his texts are being analyzed :P

He is introverted. I have to, often times, edit things because they are way to long. You should be more aggressive and tell him you like him or show him you do at least.
