Do you think guys get muscular to attract girls?

I never got into going to the gym or working with weights. As a matter of fact, gyms like you see now didn't even exist when I was younger. However I was into a lot of sports. I haven't done it myself, but I see working out at the gym as similar to any other sport.
I did it just because I liked it. I did it because I liked doing physical things. I did it because I loved good hard work. I did it because it just felt really damn good using those muscles and pushing them to the limit. Yes, it can be addictive. If I didn't get some good exercise, it felt like something was missing. I NEEDED to expend that energy.
There was no such thing as computers or the internet when I was a kid. We went out and did things. We were very active and played sports since we were young. It was just a part of me that I couldn't have separated even if I wanted to.
When I no longer actively did sports, I did construction work instead, which felt even better than sports. It was a better workout. It felt almost like a professional sport, where I actually got paid for doing something I loved. Not all, but a lot of the other guys doing that kind of work loved it also, especially framers.
Doing it for girls never entered my mind. I might have known deep in the back of my mind that some girls were attracted to athletic types. I might have known that my body was pretty well shaped and some girls might like that. But it was never a motivation in any way, and it very rarely entered my mind. When I was doing sports, or working physical jobs, I was there in the moment. It was me against me, and nothing else mattered.
Dude i was just talking about this with a gym buddy today!
So my line of thinking is: The overwhelming majority of guys I think start lifting to attract girls, don't like being too skinny, etc.
Superficial reasons essentially. But as you lift more and more and it becomes integrated into your lifestyle, motivations to stay dedicated in fitness become much more pure.
It's like do people seriously think I work my ass off for 12 hours a week after I work my ass off at my full-time job just for girls?
There has to be a deeper motivations. Fitness makes me happy, it's not like a mental battle to go to the gym or not, because I'm literally not happy if I skip several days. It's how I exert energy, stress, find balance in my life, mood balance, self-confidence, self-efficacy in reaching goals, etc. Many internal reasons, in addition to the aesthetics, looking good and superficial reasons.
See ya in Church
thanks MHO mate
Perfect answer!
@archiz @BelleGirl21 thank you!!
De nada, tio.
Omg don't go Spanish on me man, I'll get even more of a man crush on you
Hahaha is so you can woo your girl xD
I don't know. I would think the guys that do it to "attract girls" use that as motivation for them to workout and get fit. Wanting to look good for and to attract the opposite gender can be quite the motivator.
But I honestly think most guys do it as a mix of wanting to be attractive to others, for themselves, and for overall health. 💪🏼🏋🏽
Basically... guy's don't get a V line, side ab's, arms made of steel and etc etc to attract the attention of other men... well some do lol. And maybe to make other men feel like less of a man I don't know not my thing, but then again... who am I to judge? Lol
We may do it for ourselves or just to make other guys jealous (not necessarily for homo reasons). Just like you girls do make up.
@YourFutureEx I don't wear makeup lolol not my thing. That's all natural African beauty you witness from meβ I'm actually more of a tomboy babe.
Was talking about the rest 99.9999% girls. I wish other girls were also confident like you. Maybe they're not just well endowed :P
@YourFutureEx me too, but then again.. who am I to judge? Lol I see some girl's cake that crap on looking casket sharp Lmao... and they don't even need makeup some look better without it.
Become a man and speak the same sentence again, hundreds of womyn will come and bash you lol.
@YourFutureEx that's when you tell them to take the thumb out of their asses and relaxππ some people are just overly sensitive. Don't hold back your opinion because of a few crazies. I'm a girl and idgaf imagine if I was a guy I'd be a major asshole lol
"that's when you tell them to take the thumb out of their asses and relax" lol I spill my food on my keyboard π

@YourFutureEx that better not be pizza you're wasting lol
They probably do it for themselves AND to get girls " Kill two birds with one stone".
But these ones :
fitness.bf-1.com/.../14277.jpg
Probably do it for themselves because most girls don't find it attractive at all.
Most guys in the gym will never get that muscular because that is impossible naturally and you need drugs to end up like that
Now apply this same answer with makeup and we definitely have learned something today about guys and girls. Spot on.
Thanks for MHG :)
You're welcome

Well some of them do it for the sake of general health, I think.
it depends, if the person gets all their aesthetics and strength and doesn't do anything with it other than lift more weights at the gym then they're just doing cause they be vain lol.
now.. that person may counter-argue and say, "bro i lead a healthy lifestyle", well you don't have to lift to stay healthy.
if a person gets strength from lifting and aesthetics happen to be an inevitable bonus, and they use what they gained towards something functional, then it really is for them, with meaning, with purpose.
muscle without function is essentially useless, so give it a purpose you bitches. dont live to lift, live to lift to accomplish THE VAST GREATNESS! BEYOND!!!
For most yes but for me no. I wanted to get a six pack, v-line, and a bigger chest because I didn't like my body at one point. When I was 14, I was tall and skinny but with a stomach. So I got a basic weight set and started working out at home. I even got asked to join the wrestling team but I didn't want to. By college I pushed even further training with my friends (who are fighters), and maintained myself at the gym. When it comes to my appearances it's not so much what others think. But how I feel about it that gets me working on myself.
Most guys that I know personally do it for themselves which often means, they just wanted to be strong. Only reason i began working out when i was younger was to be sttonger for sports. a lot of guys do workout solely for women tho. The majority workout for multiple reasons, including girls.
1. Feels better to be physically fit. For a variety of physical and psychological reasons.
2. You'll live longer.
3. You'll be more physically attractive to the opposite sex.
List goes on I'm sure
Am I the only one around here who also thinks that they do it to impress other MEN. Not in a homo way, but in the way to show superiority, to be the alpha around the group; to get respect; to be seen with fear from the ones that are smaller.
I also think that it is a factor, but yeah, most do it either to lose weight and then get addicted to it, or just to impress women
Me too.
the majority of the guys that I work out with they don't pay attention to ANY girls at the gym. they work out and mind their business. there can be the hottest girl there and guys don't care to even glance at her.
I do it to stay athletic, not to grab someone else's attention. I think building muscle attract women is a poor way of building self esteem. Over the course of eleven years playing sports, I've more sprains than I can count, broken my bones thrice, have had a lot of scars (Street workouts are as dangerous as they're rewarding). Who would go through all that crap to get laid? Well, that's just me.
I think most work out for a number of reasons. Being fit and attractive to women is one reason. Health, career, and sports are also valid reasons. Plus you want to be strong and able to defend yourself. Inmates work out as well for defense and survival reasons.
I dunno. Personally when I went to the gym, I did so with the pure intention of just not being as skinny anymore. Haven't gone for a while but I intend to go again some time soon. And my intentions will still be the same - just go become more fit. A good physique won't change an ugly face lol so I see no reason to try and attract girls at this point :/
My ex had an unhealthy fitnessregime which was also harmful to our relationship because he chose time in the gym over time with me. Sure he got physically hotter, but at what cost? He refused to change that even after I told him I just wanted his company. So yeah, certainly a case of NOT doing it for the girl.
Not all, but quite a bit. Some do it for themselves. But I think attracting a partner plays a part for some guys, too (like not just attracting a woman, they can be wanting to attract other men if they're gay or bi).
I think some might do that initially, but actually get in to it for themselves. I know some women that do the same thing, to be fit to attract a partner but end up just loving to exercise and be fit.
a bit of both but any muscle beyond a certain level is prolly for themselves cuz girls dont typically expect jacked. its intimidating. tbh i think the confidence it brings a guy is the best dating-related feature of fitness cuz im not particularly crazy about muscles. and know many girls aren't either.
I wouldn't say all guys. There are some that are just really into that whole fitness lifestyle. But there are some that do it for the sake of being able to show off.
by the way, I thought you deactivated for a second. I was sad lol.
Oh no, just didn't want my face up there anymore haha
Fair enough lol
Don't know, it seems to me that the guys with the biggest muscles are with fat girls. Toned, skinny guys get hot, skinny girls.
I go to the gym but will never be ripped, no matter what I do. It is to avoid getting fat, for myself.
So you think those guys with fat chicks get big muscles so they can pick up their fat gf?
Hahaha just kidding xD
I think the main motivator is to look good for themselves, it's a confidence booster if you're fit. The girls are an added bonus along the way lol
Of course they do. Everything a man does is to impress women. If there was no women we'd never change our clothes or wash or shave or anything. Who the hell would we want to impress? Men don't give a shit about other mens opinions if they don't know them. Even then you better be careful criticising your mate. Your just as likely to get a smack in the jaw as a nod of acknowledgement
A lot of guys hate looking scrawny and underweight so they start lifting. Some of them do it for the sole purpose of attracting women. My brother is buff and only gets compliments from other dudes but chicks don't notice as much. I still think most of the dudes do it for themselves.
Yea ones who still can't get girls do lol
I remember I was doing well enough in 8th with chicks when I didn't lifted lol I was always like biggest kid at my school but then my dad built us weight room when I was in 8th, I do it to improve me on field tackle bigger dudes gain bigger strength and stamina. Ima go d1 then NFL so I do it for this, Hot amazing bod and stuff that comes up with it are just bonus.
Combination. I'm not the most good looking guy facially, so building up my body is all I've got. But it is also for myself-i just feel proud of my body and achievements, and being able to lift heavier things, run faster and for longer, and being all round more capable than I used to be is s great feeling.
Okay, so I voted for "Most guys DO." That's just a trend that I've noticed around where I live. Most of the guys that work out a lot around here are players. However, I do know that not all guys are like that. Some actually do it for their health. :)
