Why do people look away when they see me, guys especially?

i would see a guy from far looking at me but as soon as we get up close to each other they look away & avoid eye contact with me. Some girls do it to but its mostly guys i noticed do it a lot as if i intimidate them or something or they think im going to bite smh. Its like this happens with almost every guy & like every school i went to i experienced this... do i give off a bad vibe unconciously perhaps? Cuz im tired of it cuz im really nice if u get to no me u no

I have few answers for you:

* Some cultures are more favorable to eye contact than others. In the US, when you meet someone, you shake their hand and look them in the eye. In many Eastern cultures looking at eyes can be seen as a sign of disrpect.

* They are afraid that you will see what is in their heart (soul, mind,...). (Perhaps because you are intense and your gaze is penetrating?)

* Perhaps you look unhappy. Most people try to avoid interaction with unhappy people. Interaction between strangers often begins with eye contact.
