Do guys like being called funny?

Recently I was hanging out with this guy along with a lot of our friends and my friends were like "you're an idiot" and I was like "no, he's funny" Which is true. I wasn't laughing at his jokes to flirt, I was laughing because he was funny (although the flirting thing has possibilities, I haven't known him that long). Do guys like that?

I never mind being called funny. I'm a funny guy. Guys hate it when you make it sound like a compliment, but you use it as an excuse.

Bad...

Him: "Hi! [insert funny here]. Say - would you like to go out with me?"

You: "[Genuine laugh and giggle] Oh, that was a funny wisecrack! You're funny! I like you as a friend." [Procede to date a meathead with pecs who treats you badly.]

Good...

Him: "Hi! [insert funny here]. Say - would you like to go out with me?"

You: "[Genuine laugh and giggle] Oh, that was a funny wisecrack! I'd love to go out with you! You make me laugh!

Also, guys never mind the flirt laugh, but a genuine laugh combined with flirting is great! (Yes, we know the difference - it's actually very easy to spot.) Unfortunately, a lot of girls use "He's funny" the same way that a lot of guys use "She's got a great personality."

Haha well I do mean it as a sincere compliment and...I wouldn't consider flirting with him if he weren't hot lol (is that what you meant with the great personality bit?)

That's what I meant. If ever you're asked out by a guy you're not interested in and you don't want to hurt his feelings, NEVER try to mitigate the rejection with a compliment. Simply say no and the reason. Phrases like "You're funny," "You'll be great for somebody else," etc. translate in a guy's brain to, "You'll have to settle for a pig in a track suit and never get a girl like me... I'm so far out of your league that we're not playing the same sport."

So they'd prefer if we just said "sorry, no"?

Yup. Or, "Sorry, I have a boyfriend," "I'm not interested in dating right now," "I'm a lesbian," etc. It's OK to explain that you would just like to remain friends *IF* you actually are friends.

To be sincere I don't like been called funny. I can be call funny type of we are playing but not just to be call funny in the middle of conversation.. I don't like it.
