My friend and I were working with a group of kids and I said that they were cute. And he said “just like me!”

so I said “you’re not cute your handsome”

and he seemed upset that I didn’t call him cute so do guys like being called cute? I always figured that was a girly word and they didn’t like it?

Depends on the context. When a lady is talking to her friends at a bar and I overhear her say something like "he's cute" when I walk by, that's great. I've also called a guy cute at a bar because he was drunk and threatening me right before I slapped the bad idea out of him.

I find handsome more complimenting but being called " cute" is fine
