Ex requests to follow me on Instagram then deletes it before I respond. Then after I follow him he requests to follow me then unfollows me?

Guy I used to have an on again off again thing with out of the blue requested to follow me on Instagram this morning. We used to work together however I recently got a different job so I don't see him anymore. I know he requested to follow me because I got a notification on my phone, however when I go into the app the notification is gone. So he deleted the follow request before I responded to it. I follow him to see what he'll do and he requested to follow me. I accepted and then he deleted me a couple hours later. I know he has a long distance girlfriend he got with after me. Can anyone give some insight into what his actions might mean? I am still really into him and am hoping it was a sign he still has some interest for me but since he deleted me I'm confused.

But it couldve been by accident, or he wanted to see you again. Or changed his mind about following you. Guys are weird.
