Men do you usually just randomly smile at women while walking on the street? Girls, do you smile back?

I noticed many guys do this, but us girls don't (as far as I know).
I personally rarely smile back because I find it awkward.
Maybe it's less awkward in smaller cities, but it is kinda creepy in the big ones.

I used to, but I don't any more. Not since I got arrested by the police for having the temerity to smile at a woman from across the bar at a singles event, and she called them and had them violently escort me from the premises for 'sexual harassment'. Because apparently, in this country (UK) now, even looking in the direction of a woman is sufficient grounds to have you incarcerated for "sexually molesting her with your eyes, making her feel uncomfortable by looking at her and by being within her line of sight. You aren't allowed to go back inside to finish your drink, you aren't allowed to be anywhere within a mile of this venue for the next 24 hours- if you are, then we'll arrest you. Not randomly for sure. I might have unconsciously had a big smile on my face if I saw some really sexy-looking girl go by.

Also sometimes when I was single and intoxicated and I saw a pretty girl walk by, I'd say like, "Wow, pretty!" I just kind of blurted out what I was thinking. Not sure that counts as cat-calling -- I usually got "thank yous" or smiles from it.

I live in a small village so I smile at every person and generally greet them as well.
When I am in a town situation it's hard because I generally smile at everyone too.. but most people look at me response like I'm either wanting in their pants or wanting to slash them so im working on stopping it.

So i usually just eye the girl, naturally if i think she's hot its going to happen, and either they get that and respond or i have to keep doing it and eventually they understand whats happening. What ever cue they give me from their i make my move

I smile or smirk at pretty much everyone I meet that and I say hello or how are you doing? Or I'll just start having a conversation with someone I meet haha. We're a friendly bunch down here.

It's just polite and proper in my opinion to smile towards everyone and ask how they are doing or say hello.

Eye contact and smiling is the stage 1 of flirting.

Everyone is smiling at you because you're pretty. Not just guys, old people, children, whoever.
