Why does my ex boyfriend trash talk me?

Ok so, my ex boyfriend dumped me about 4 months ago because he lost feelings for me. I think I handled the breakup quite well as I did not ask for him back, nor did I try to do anything. In fact, I joined a gym soon after, started going out more, started caring about myself physically and mentally. When we spoke a month later, he asked if we could be friends and I declined as I knew being friends with him would not work out as there was quite a lot of unresolved issues. For the past 2-3 months, I've walked past him trash talking me, I've heard him trash talking me, I've heard from other people that he's been trashing about me, and he has even done it while I was in the same room as him. For 3 months this has been going on. Now, I've tried my hardest to avoid him as much as possible; I try not to hang out in the same area he is in, I leave the room when I hear him talking about me, and I try not to talk about him either. So all in all, I have not spoken to him in 3 months. Yet, he called me "crazy" now this makes no sense since I've basically pretended like he doesn't exist and haven't gone trashing talking him. So on what basis is he calling me "crazy"? Can someone please explain to me why he feels the need to constantly trash talk me when I haven't actually done anything wrong to him? Please don't say things like "you shouldn't focus on his actions!" Etc etc, I do know that. But I'm finally speaking about this after 3 months. I just need some insight.

My guess is that he is bothered by you. He dumped you but has since become unnerved by the fact that you haven't fallen apart and the fact that you have improved yourself. He was in control when he dumped you but now you have taken back the control, because you are just living your life and he is the one obsessing over you.

If anything you should take this as a victory. Carry on living your life, ignore his petty stupidity. Every time he trash talks you is proof that he just can't get over you. That should make you feel pretty good actually. Just laugh at him, he's pathetic.

Why would he trash talk you if he is over you? If he was truly over you he just wouldn't have the time or interest to talk about you. Anger and resentment are emotions of obsession. While we are angry with someone we are focused on them, they are in our head. When we are truly over someone we just don't even think about them anymore.

For every breakup, there's a winner and a loser. The winner bounces back quickly, their future looks bright, and overall they're happier. The loser is the total opposite. They're unhappy, they're bothered by their ex, they want to keep in touch with their ex when they really shouldn't, and they act petty because they won't move on. Overall, the loser in the breakup acts pathetic. He's mad that you're doing better without him.
