Why is my ex going out of his way to bad talk me when we ended months ago?

Friends are telling me he brings me up unprovoked just to make rude remarks about me.

When a boyfriend of mine and I had to be apart because of circumstances with his sick mother, he told his brother and his sister in law that I was crazy and on all kinds of psych meds.
None of it was or is true. So they never liked me after that.
I tried to tell his sister in law that none of it was true but she kept saying "It's ok, some of us have to take meds" which made me even more mad.
So years later we got back together as boyfriend and girlfriend and he kept telling me his brother doesn't like men. And it's because he told them I was crazy and he had to get away from me. What a frickin liar! I don't even know why he would say that about ME because it was his wife that was literally crazy and in and out of psych wards and trying to commit suicide all the time.

You just never know what makes a person tick🤷🏼‍♀️

Some people do this as their defense mechanism. They push others down so they can look like the "good one" in an argument, breakup, etc. It's like all the people on here who paint a Disney Villain portrait of their ex regardless of whether it was an amicable split, a ghosting or a rabid fight to the death for them to part ways. Just ignore it...

Also, it's possible the friends are just saying this to see what you'll do and start up an even bigger calamity.
