I dated a guy who was really sweet in the beginning. We were casual friends (no benefits lol) and then ended up dating. He cheated on me and was really inconsiderate and selfish so I broke up with him. We got back together shortly after but broke up again for good. I am not perfect but I have never done him wrong, the only thing I did was take him back too many times and be too forgiving. It's been over for several months but I hear that he still talks about me to other people, often saying bad things and lies and tries to trash me. I have no idea why! He said that he's over me and doesn't give a f*** so why keep my name in your mouth? I have moved on but it gets annoying always having to defend myself from stuff he says.

it embarasses me to say this but I used to be like that guy. come to think of it my ex never did me much wrong besides a few bad judgments, but I still treated her like trash. all she did was move on and it wasn't her fault. she found someone else who made her happy and I was mad and jealous and why? because I still loved her. I wanted things to be the way they were; I was selfish. so I trash talked her, went behind her back, behaved in a two faced manner all cause I still wanted her in my life but I loathed her for not loving me anymore. I lost her trust and I lost her for good. I regret it all the time but I've learnt a lesson and I'll never be that kind of person again. you can take it as a sign that he may still have feelings for you and doesn't know how to deal with it

He is embarassed and probably shocked you left him. He probably thought he could get away with treating you any way he wanted because you were nice to him. He's angry at you and feels guilty on some level about what he did. It's immaturity. Next time one of your friends or his friends asks you about something he said, just tell them, "He's still butthurt that I dumped him for cheating on me. Pay no attention to what that little boy says." and drop it.
