Why is he protective of me?

Why are guys protective of their girl friends?

I was wondering why guys are so protective of their friends that are girls? One of my guy friends tends to be very protective of me. When it starts to get a little dark outside, sometimes he will walk me home so that I feel safe. If I get freaked out by walking out at night " It's OK, because your with me", and he'll make it seem like when I'm with him, I wouldn't get hurt or get hit by a car because he would either push me out of the way before I get hit, or stop me from going in front of a moving car if I was out of it, or something by putting his arm out in front of me as a barrier between me and the car. Then, he'll make sure not to bring me anywhere with people he knows I would feel uncomfortable around. For instance, there was a drunk couple stood near me and he told me to stand near him. 

One time he grilled me about my abusive ex-boyfriend for two hours and kept asking intimate questions about our relationship. He kept asking me 'do you still text him?' And 'was there anybody else you've been with'

Another time a homeless man shouted at me to move out the way and he placed himself in between me and the homeless guy 

So why is it that he's so protective of me?

It is just natural. A guy generally is protective of females in his life. Not just friends, girlfriend, sisters, cousins, aunts, even mom. If he grew up with sisters, he probably is used to being protective.

If you want explaination, i am afraid, you can't find one. It is just because we care.

Well, that depends. I mean, if you guys are just friends, he might just really care about you. He could have feelings, but you could probably just ask him. I have girls that are friends and I can be protective of them sometimes. But that's just because I care about them.

Because that's how their personality is. I am a woman and I am still protective of my friends. It doesn't mean that I am attracted to them.

It's just natural instinct for men to do that, And some men genuinely do it because they care and it comforts their doubt or guilt. It doesn't necessarily means he's into you but it means he cares and he is following his instinct.

It just feels right. I guess it's a little bit of instinct left in us from the stone age that intelligence can't seem to block off. (although if a guy has a completely different mindset about that it might not be the case)
