+1 yFirst of all - Thank you for your military servce to our country.
Now, as for your question. Maybe it is the Western American culture that I live in, but I only know 1 woman who doesn't like guns. This is out of all my family, freinds, co-workers ect..
Some see them as a tool and nothing more. Others love them
. One women I know, would always say "Some women collect dimonds - I collect guns".
I collect knves myself, but have several guns and know how to use them. Wheather it be for hunting or protection of my home & family.
This summer, a rattle snake started to come in my house through an open door. It could have bitten my family or pets, so I shot it.
A couple poeple said " Oh! How could you do that! And
in your house.Did you shoot a hole in anything?"
My responce was this :
First, the only thing I put a hole is was the snake - he
was the only thing I was aiming at and I hit where I aim.
Next, if anything or any body comes in my home un-invited and threatens my loved ones - that threat will
be shot.
Guns are like anything else - we need to be respectful
and respoceable.
They are not toys, they can do damage . They can cause injury, death and property damage.
So can a car.
It's the person behind the trigger or steering wheel that makes both either dangerous or useful.14 Reply- +1 y
Excellent answer. You have got a good head on your shoulders.

Ok I'm definitely not against guns... but the parallel you draw between guns and cars is kinda weak. Cars can kill but are meant for transportation. Guns are only for killing and, when you think about it, practicing how to efficiently do so. I was at a gun show a few weeks ago, bought a cool knife.
- +1 y
Not efficiently, effectively*

Car have a practical purpose of transportation. Yet there are many poeple who collect cars and show cars as a hobby.
Just as guns have a practicle use as means of self defence, hunting ect, there are also those who colloect guns as a hobby and so on.
No matter how you feel about them, cars & guns are objects. Then can be used and mis-used by whom ever is in control of them.

Anonymous(36-45)+1 yWell.. my boyfriend was in the army for 5 years (though he's no longer in the army now). He's asked me about how I would feel about him purchasing a gun and I have mixed feelings about it. He says that after being in the army, having a gun is almost like an extension of himself, and I can understand that. His interest would be just to have one so that he could go to the shooting range (and like, just in case there's a zombie apocolypse or something :P). For me, I just worry about all the "what ifs" about having a gun in my home. He explained to me that it would be kept in a locked box with the ammo kept in a separate locked box.
I do believe that he would be safe and responsible with it, but for some reason I still feel sort of weird about it.
My main reservation, however, is the fact that my boyfriend has suffered from depression in the past. He's doing well now, but I worry that if he has those feelings again and he has access to a gun... well, I don't really have to finish that.00 Reply
Er no. That's pathetic. I've held a firearms certificate and shotgun licence for nearly 10 years. I currently use 12b o/u shotgun for pheasant, pigeon and partridge shooting. I have .220 rifle for rabbiting and vermin control. I've shot .303 rifles when I was working as a game warden in South Africa, to knock out impala and kudu. (I have a lovely impala rug as a souvenier of when I was working out there). My gorgeous yellow labrador dog is also used to the guns and he's been out working with me for the past 7 seasons as a peg dog and is due to retire next year bless him..
I'm also in the Navy and am used to using a pistol, and of course the standard issue rib rattling SA80 rifle!
Guns don't kill people, people kill people. Oh and tell the next stupid bint who's scared of a gun, what kills more people per annum, a car or a gun? That should shut her up.10 Reply
all people have the slight fear of what firearms are capable of. so it varies from person to person as to who hates them.

Anonymous(36-45)+1 yBarack Obama thinks guns are bad, and that he should take them away. I think that he is retarded.

I second that emotion.
Opinion Owner+1 ySomeone breaks into my house armed with a weapon to rob me, or hurt my family.. you bet your ass I'm shooting them. Can't take away my right to protect myself

It all depends on how guns are used. I like to do target practice with my family for fun, for example. I'm not really into hunting, but I find guns themselves quite fascinating and love to sharpen my shooting skills.
On the other hand, guns can be hurtful. We always hear about shootings and such on the news, and it's scary. Very scary.
Like countygirl said, guns are like cars. You need to be responsible with one. They can do damage, and they can cause injury. It's about the person handling them.10 Replymy family is from virginia. I pack heat. I shoot on the weekends. I am stoked for deer season. I have two antique rifles in my closet. I have a 6-shooter in my nightstand...right now ha ha : )
I grew up with them so I don't really mind them. additionally, I travel a lot with my friends and they LOVE that I can defend them if I need to. by the way, I am not a creepy bush lady if anyone's wondering. people should realize that the people who legally own and carry guns have taken classes, filed the paperwork with the state, and are aware of the dangers of carrying a firearm. however, it's the people that illegally carry that we should worry about...and I have my LEGAL gun to keep them the hellz bellz away from me.12 Reply- +1 y
I want to hug you. I think I'm in love. lol
I've grown up in Wisconsin, where hunting season is bigger than even Christmas time. I personally, am not a huge fan of going out hunting and such, but I am not scared of guns at all. Most every girl from my area and my family hunt. Maybe you're just in an area where it isn't normal or something, because I've never met a girl who is a afraid or who hates guns. Thank you for your service, by the way.:)

That's the same with me lol...living in wisconsin and hunting lol :p
I don't think I am afraid of guns per say, but I have never actually held one. Where I live, it's not the norm to own a gun and I don't know anybody who owns one.
That being said, I would be afraid of me with a gun because I wouldn't know how to handle it. But people who are trained(police, army etc.) don't scare me.00 Reply
+1 yNo, I'm not afraid of them, just don't shoot it at me
20 Replyi like them, I think they are fun.
just not to kill anything ha ha don't want to see that.10 Reply
+1 yI don't like them. If you're not a cop or in the military there's no reason to have a gun. I've never understood how people enjoy going out just shooting things.
04 Reply- +1 y
No reason to have a gun if your not a cop or in the military? What if your home alone and someone breaks into your house? what if you aren't able to get to a phone or the police don't get their in time? or what if someone attacks you on the street and tries to rape you? responsible armed citizens help prevent crime.

Well iluvcartman, if you don't like guns that's fine but your one of those damn hippies who thinks no should have one, well it's in the constitution, and if you think that right should be taken away, well guess what women's right to vote is also in the constitution and I feel that some women shouldn't be allowed to vote, but it is your right so if you want to take away the right to have guns, then maybe we should take away your right to vote agreed?

Too many people get shot because they're in the wrong place at the wrong time, too many criminals get sold guns and wind up shooting innocent people for no reason, and as far people who just like to go out shooting things I've always thought that was stupid. It's 2010, there's no reason to go out and hunt for your dinner. And tex, way to over react, but I'm also assuming you're from texas so I know you can't help but be trigger happy, texas is one state this country could do without
+1 yUnless they're being used for the special forces, I hate them. I really don't see a point to have them. And they really scare me.
07 Reply- +1 y
Why do they scare you?
- +1 y
Cause I associate them with death. Where I come from, there is a ton of gun related deaths. And I had a friend of mine who was shot to death.
- +1 y
Im sorry to hear to about your friend. But I'm also sorry that you feel that way about guns. More people are killed by car accidents every year than from firearms in the us. But does that mean we should get rid of all cars and go back to riding horses? Its unfourtunate that people use them for murder but they are not all about causing death. They say countless lives too. Of soldiers and armed citizens. When I was deployed in Iraq my rifle never left my side it was friend that kept me safe.
- +1 y
Well I'm totally okay with guns for the special/armed forces. I have absolutely nothing against them IF there's a purpose for them. But for the people that walk around with a gun just to scare people and use them for those random shootings... THAT I'm not okay with. A lot of people just take advantage of gun possession and think they that they can go shoot some innocent people.
- +1 y
Im a very affectionate and caring guy. Just because I love guns doesn't mean I'm a whacko. I feel very strongly that everyone has the right to use guns to defend themselves from violent crime. But your right people who would buy guys just to intimitade and use them for violence should NOT be allowed to own them. Sadly we can't always keep them all out of the wrong hands. Again I'm sorry for your friend. I'm glad I never saw any of my buddies shot during my deployments. My heart goes out to you.

I lived in a very rural, very poor, very gun owning area and there weren't shootings, stabbings, anything like that up here. I never heard about kids shooting kids or drive bys that was only on TV. I'm sad you had to group up in an area where people did those sorts of things to each other.
- +1 y
Thanks, I appreciate it.
But I should probably make this more clear. I do not live in a poor area... there are really poor areas and there are really great areas.. I live in a good area and I happen to have friends from all different parts of the city. But in general, the city I live in, is filled with gun related crimes.... if my explanation makes any sense.
Anonymous(30-35)+1 yguns are hot lol...I go hunting so I'm not afraid at all
