How do you feel about girls that can use a gun?

Being able to defend yourself is a good thing. However, women in particular are often raised with the idea of "it doesn't matter what you do; you're just a girl", which society is quick to reinforce. This is part of why domestic violence rates are so horrifically high among lesbian couples. That line of thinking is dangerous enough in its own right, but you REALLY don't want to see that among armed people. Naturally, it's not limited to girls, but it IS worse among them, and I think a vitally important part of learning to use is a gun is learning when to use it, and not just how.

I'm a former firearms instructor and competitive shooter - before California laws made that virtually impossible. But I'm sure you can imagine what I think. I've taken my girlfriend to the range a couple of times, and she's slowly getting comfortable with shooting.

Mostly all of the hassles and prices of ammo. It's ridiculous. I used to be able to order ammo from anywhere in the country, but today it's easier to buy a gun than ammo, and in some cases it's cheaper. Ammo is 4-5 times as expensive as it was 25 years ago when I was competing.

@Vegasrunner Yes. For now, at least. Only FFLs can bring ammo into the state, and you have to have a background check to buy it (which of course you pay for), and you have to pay again and run the check again every time you buy. Currently that only costs $1 per transaction - ASSUMING you have legally purchased a gun in California AND you have not moved since them so that all of your data (address and phone number) still matches AND you have a "Real ID".

You can *technically* import ammo, but much like buying a gun, you have to have it shipped to an FFL, who then perform the background check before giving it to you - and the FFL can charge whatever he likes for this service. As you can imagine, they don't want you buying ammo for $10 a box when they sell it for $25 a box, so expect to pay a substantial fee.

That also means the government is going to keep track of your purchases, and who can say if and/or when they decide that you've bought too much and need a "friendly visit" - one that your dogs definitely won't survive, and you'll be lucky if you do.

Also this sounds like it's a California state law? and difficult to enforce, I buy ammo in Nevada all the time, and travel w/ my firearm to California and Arizona pretty regularly, granted I could unknowingly be breaking a law, but because of where Vegas is located most people I know frequent Cali, Utah and Arizona w/ firearms.

FFL = Federal Firearms License. Especially a licensed gun dealer. And, yes, if you are importing ammo from out of state, that's a big no no that could potentially end your right to own guns - and that would apply nationwide.

California politicians have made no secret that they hope to disqualify as many people as possible.

These laws are blatantly unconstitutional, but the 9th Circus upholds them anyway unless the Supreme Court agrees to review the case, and smacks the 9th Circus down (they are by far the most overturned court of all the Federal Circuit courts.

Even when they are overturned, the process takes 5 or 6 years and they will have passed 5 more unconstitutional laws in that time, so it's a forever war.

It's a sport like playing tennis or volleyball. .22LR isn't really a caliber to shoot people or even animals bigger than a rat.
On the other hand if you can shoot a group with diameter of a coin in 100m with.22 you will hit a politician in 600m with.338 without any troubles, that's why they are afraid of pleb having firearms and know hot to use them.

Even though Florida doesn't require a permit any longer for CCW my husband and I both took classes for proper handling of a gun and how to correctly use it. In the beginning we would go to the range every week, but haven't done that in awhile. I do carry a S & W Bodyguard most of the time.

Good, they should absolutely learn. I’ll always say we need gun control but I’ll never turn down a good education. If people are going to have access to these weapons, they should be required to know how to shoot.

No, you can literally just buy a gun and leave the place you bought it from. My home state used to require an education to certify one’s concealed carry permit (otherwise it falls under castle law meaning you can only carry a loaded gun inside your house or in your car but not any other public area or private building) but then they instituted constitutional carry so now castle law no longer applies. The only thing you have to go through if you’ve never owned a gun before is a small background check and a 3 day waiting period. If you’ve had no history of violence, you’re usually good to buy

Honestly, hand guns have a bit more restriction on them but things like shotguns and hunting rifles are sold in walmart with pretty much no restriction at all because they’re not selling ammunition made to defend yourself but ammunition made for hunting bucks and birds. The easiest cheat sheet if you want a gun but don’t want to deal with the legal restrictions is to just get one of those and fill it with buckshot ammo
