Why would a Guy friend insisted on walking me home?

I hung out with a male friend over the weekend for the afternoon. We just did some shopping and talked a bit about various things, until about the evening. When the sun went down and it started to get dark, I said I wanted to get home since I didn't have a ride. I told him I'd be okay if I hurried, but he insisted on walking me home even though it's a bit out of his way

Ok, look, guys and girls can never be just simple friends. There is always some sort of sexual attraction there. He likes you and feels some sort of male primeval instinctive urge to "protect the female" he has interests in.
