I've known this guy for about 3 years now in the first year we where pretty on and off and we where both each others first time. Since we last broke up though we seem to of gotten in to this cycle of going out or seeing other people but always still hooking up with each other.

When he's drunk and just with me he'll say things like "I can see myself with you 5 years down the line" and how he really misses me but as soon as he's sober and around friends he's completely different.

However when it's just us two we'll talk and laugh for hours but it feels like he'll only meet up when he wants a shag. Need a guys perspective on this badly! Where the heck do I stand with him?

If you can see 20-20 and are not neurotic, then use your eyes and not your ears. Can analyze something this close without emotions taking over? If so, your eyes will be a better testament than advice based upon your Cliff Notes version.

Cliff Notes: from this charette, it seems he

1. loves you physically

2. considers you a best friend in private

3. contemplates a long term relationship - when older, not now IF some future event doesn't change all that

4. is still shopping around, perhaps only looking, perhaps this impresses his friends

5. seems to want something more but not sure what or not sure he can snag it

If you want to wait around 5+ years to seal the deal, then you'll certainly want to employ protected sex for your physical and date others as possible replacements for your emotional.

There is a possibility he's just coming back to you because he knows it will lead to sex. Which also means it's possible that he's just saying those things to keep the bed warm. However, he may be confused and deeply care for you. The best thing I can think of is to be honest. Just be completely open about what you just posted and tell him that you need to know if the way he feels is real. One word of warning, he may just give you a crappy "I don't know" which means he needs to do some soul-searching and then give you a no-nonsesense answer. Who knows, maybe he's madly in love with you and is worried about the exact same thing. You will never know unless you're honest with him. Best of luck.

ok here's the story darlin, you see he just wants a shag. I mean cmon he only chats to you when he wants some narn bred so you might aswell let him cos its a win win situation for both of you innit. haha.
