Says he’s in a weird place?

So I’ve been speaking to a guy for the last few weeks and we’ve been getting on great. Talking non-stop from morning to early hours the next day. We’ve spoken on the phone for hours and he recently drove 3 hours to meet me.

Since meeting he's he’s cooled off massively and been distant. After a few days off this I called him out on his behaviour and asked if we was ok, I know he’s not after anything serious as he’s just got out of a relationship but thought we was getting a long well as friends. I asked if he wanted me to leave him alone or not.

he replied we were fine and that he was just in a weird place atm and is trying to sort himself out and sorry if I’ve felt that way, he also said he doesn’t want me to leave him alone and he wants me as a friend.

What does he mean by being in a weird place? Should I just leave him be and if he wants to talk he knows where I am?
