My ex-boyfriend calls me but when I go to pick up he's silent?

I had to say hello a couple times but didn't receive a reply back. We broke up 3 months ago but he's been calling me "on and off" to try and get back together, or at least imply it. Once he got extremely jealous when I told him I hooked up with a guy after we broke up and he started calling me a whore and slut even though he's been doing the exact same thing but if I did it it was "different". Wtf? He called me a couple times after that and before this time he called me trying to hook up back with me and I told him I was talking to another guy and he hung up on me even though truthfully things were starting to get emotional. He told me that he's "never felt the same way over anyone else before" and that "if he didn't want to talk to me he wouldn't even call me so often". That day was his birthday, and two days before that (my birthday) he didn't even call me saying his phone was disconnected and all his bs yet he calls me for HIS birthday? I found two days after that he actually called my friend whom he tried to flirt with right before he called me on his birthday, even telling her that he "had feelings for me" according to her. Honestly I don't trust either of them because they had suspicious fb sh*t going on. So I find out he's been trying to flirt and go out with different girls even my friends yet he STILL tries to come back? Obviously the trust is non-existant, by either party. Him and I got in a fight when I found out he called her and I put him out there telling him he was fake and a hypocrite, he called back twice that night and I just told him he was a shady f***. Then I find out by another friend that he called her days after (which was yesterday) asking her why I was mad at him and sh*t. I guess to be the bigger person, or maybe to inflate my ego, I don't know, I decided to text him right after she informed me (big mistake I know) telling him I wasn't mad anymore, maybe to make myself seem like I didn't care. He didn't even respond just put "..." and now he calls me again just about an hour ago and when I go to pick up he's completely silent? So I just clicked, and he never called back.

Honestly, I feel as if he's playing games. I know he's talked mad crap about me (we went out twice) especially the first time we went out. I hate to admit it but I think he uses me as a rebound, an option, even if he hates me associating with other guys. Is he just a tool or can there be a possibility that even though he's a tool (no kidding about that), he might feel something for us?

It's funny you said the whole thing about escalating into a phone call at the hospital. Once him and his friend pulled a bad joke that he had got into a car accident and was in critical condtion. I never fully forgave him for that. Thanks for your

Hello I have read your post and it really makes me think of a situation I have been involved with. The first thing is that you need to know that the way he is acting is almost flat out saying that you are a possession and not a human being. I have seen this type of stuff escalate into a phone call that someone I care about is in the hospital. Sometimes people we associate with are truly a bad habit, and the best thing to do is kick the habit. From the way you talk it sounds like this is definitely not the guy your are going to spend the rest of your life with so my question is "why bother"? Its not that he feels something for you two as a couple but he does not want to have to put up with change. Change is a bad thing for many men myself included but if you don't want to change then that means there is a fear of moving on. If he has a fear of moving on, then how could a relationship with the two of you ever move on? Instinct is the best thing for a situation like this. I know that there are two sides to every story but for your story you just have to ask yourself in five years will this really matter?
