Why do some men not like their girlfriends wearing certain things?

I have never really understood why some men want to control what their girlfriend wears, and why they get upset if their girlfriend is showing too much skin, cleavage, etc. If other guys see that your girlfriend is hot, and you are the only one that gets her at the end of the day, why aren't you proud? I am mainly looking for the opinion of men on this question, but girls: feel free to answer if you come across this and want to say something :)
Please be respectful in your responses, because I am genuinely curious as to why men think this way! It will help me better understand some men instead of immediately categorizing them as "insecure."

Ok, first let me tell you why your way of thinking is wrong:
You think that guys who are with you should want to show you off and therefore be ok with you showing a bit too much skin. And while I can't deny that there is some logic behind it, that's not the case because the context is different. Basically, if a guy is with you just for the sake of being with you and having a hot girlfriend, then he will act like you have guessed. But if a guy really loves you and cares about you, he will act protective of you. It's basically the same reason why your dad doesn't like you dressing up like that.
There's this saying that says "The clothes make the man". If you show too much, people will think you're a loose and easy to get girl. The more you reveal, the more people will look at you as a slut than a lady. And guys don't want that. They want their girlfriends to be the best and finest lady around instead of a slutty-looking girl. This is why men like it when their girlfriends wear stuff which screams finesse.
The other reason is that they want to be special to you. The more you allow other guys to do to you, the more upset he will be because the less special he will think he is. Sure, he gets to have you at the end of the day, but he also knows deep inside that because of your revealing clothes some other guys also got to see a bit of your more intimate places and that some of them may be jerking off at home thinking about it. The pure thought of that disgusts them and they feel powerless to do anything about it, so they try to influence your way of dressing.

So you see, it's not really about men not liking you wearing certain things, it's just that he wants to be the only one who gets to see you in such revealing clothes. He doesn't want you to be seen outside as an eye-candy girl, but as a fine lady who sets a strict line between what others can see and what's only meant for him.

Men are a lot deeper than you women give us credit for. But society has taught you that most men are shallow and this inadvertently leads to you thinking along the lines you've mentioned above.

Ya know.. I'll be honest I find my self thinking this it all kinda ties into social media i guess my fr had these leggings and parts of them were see through and she had this top that showed off her breast and i got a bit jealous cause in y head if other people see she's looking good to it draws more attraction toher seeing were talking about that to if it's a low cut shirt showing off your breast.. why does my girlfriend want to show off her breast when I'm not around yeh she's hot but why dress like that seems like your provoking attention of complements from other people I don't know but that's how I feel

My guy hates it when I wear anything thats even a teeny tiny bit revealing when he isn’t with me. But when I’m with him he doesn’t mind it. We have had some major fights about it. I really don’t understand it at all.

I don’t have personal experience but my friends boyfriend was like this. He said he didn’t want guys to even look at her. I think he was also being protective because guys could be aggressive with her.

For me it is usually because I know what pigs men can be and do not want my girl to get in a situation where she gets hurt because some guy wants to force himself on her. Whether right or wrong, there are men who will attack a hot girl to please himself, whether or not she consents.

My partner should have no need or desire to come across as "hot" to other people.
The other people are not the problem, it's the behavior of my partner that is the problem.

That being said, I would never dictate what my partner can and cannot wear, I simply wouldn't date someone who doesn't have the common sense to determine that for themselves.

It's like this: Men are aroused visually, which means that a woman dressed revealingly would elicit lustful gazes from other men, which from the boyfriend's POV is disrespectful. Guys want other guys to view their girlfriend as a queen, not as a hot piece of ass who they may freely and undeservingly get to perv on whenever they like at their own whim.

When a friend of mine wears something stupid I tell him to take it off too and will continue to tell him until he does and he will do the same to me. Same thing with a partner.
