Why would a girl ask a friend to tag along with plans?

been friends with this girl for a long time, she has a boyfriend who is also a friend of mine. a casual friendly plans for food, or maybe a movie, she always asks a friend to come along (not a big deal) it does make it more fun with three, but it would also be nice to catch up alone. only time we have really been alone is taking day trips to go snowboarding. yet other plans a friend usually comes. so why would a girl invite a friend to join all the time on any plans, even tho we have been friends for a long time?

well its def not a setup, cause the friends have their own boyfriends, and I have never made a move or shown stronger interest than just a friend, and I have never seen any signs of a stronger interest towards myself either.

Maybe she thinks bring a friend is a form of insurance? So things don't look bad or invite temptation? Maybe she's trying to play cupid so you'll have a girlfriend to double date with them? Maybe she has a secret crush on you even though she's dating one of your friends and bringing a friend is a smart thing to do? Or it's quite possible that it's all a coincidence and she really does want her friend(s) to tag along for fun. Unless I watched this girl's actions and listened to her, it's hard to know what her real intentions are.

It could be she just likes having a group to do stuff with. The first thing that came to mind was maybe she was uncomfortable or being safe. Do you like her? Has she shown any crush or interest in you? I have had guy friends that have liked me or I thought they liked me and would bring a friend just to keep it from getting a little weird. I don't know if that is the case with you since you have been friends and are friends with her boyfriend.

Honest answer:

She probably thinks you like her.

So she usually keeps someone else around so it's not a date.

Try talking to her about a girl you like and see if anything changes.

You'll probably find that she'll become more comfortable with doing things with just you.

Couldn't have been said any better.....and I agree...she brings the friend to defuse any type of romantic involvement the 'get together' could start. Maybe you're not making enough efforts to talk about other girls you like.

Perhaps she's nervous around you. Should she be--what's your agenda? This desire to be alone with her suggests that there's something else going on that's not being acknowleged. If I'm getting the hint, she's getting the hint, so she brings someone to run interference.
