It is really is telling, the state of our culture's emotional intelligence, when a girl posts something like "Why do guys cry?" in what seems like complete sincerity, as if to imply that the idea of a guy crying is some kind of biological anomaly, isn't it? "Why do guys cry? I never see them cry, and when I do, it's such a weird thing to witness". I don't know, why do YOU cry? Are men and women really THAT different? Sure, they may act differently, in certain situations, but to imply entire ranges of the human spectrum are absent from them, and that this is just assumed to be correct, is worrying, to say the least. Yes, yes, I know, it's another case of Not All (TM), but this is the most recent iteration of this question and it seems to be a trend.
The most basic answer is that "men don't show emotions" is supposed to be a idealized male archetype: the stoic, calm strategist who knows how to work the room (probably because men have almost always been generals throughout time and had to make hard calls) is often seen as the leader of the group. However, what works on paper doesn't necessarily translate to reality. "Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus" is--in a similar vein--supposed to be an allegory, not a literal description of the nature of people.
Guys are usually more emotional then girls. They cry only when thay are alone in order not to touch their pride as strong men. They can cry over offends that girl say to them and they take it much seriously. But when a guy cries next to another person then his problems may be big, related to family, to a deasise, to a broken heart and things like this. Make them compliments and hold their back anytime that you can
I think it means he's expressing emotion & definitely a freak of nature. You should seek professional help as soon as possible. You know, so you can tell them about it and get advice about what to do. Might be a good idea to let them know you're open to taking medication too, you know, if it would help you cope with the situation.
Bc they're "human" (: 😪 EVERYONE & i mean e v e r y o n e cries at some point in their lives it's fine to show emotions, people just make men feel bad sometimes for it BUT theirs nothing wrong w/ crying.
Everyone has emotions. I think men tend to be less likely to express them because society says it isn't manly. Some men don't care what society says, they're going to cry.

Every guy is different. There is a stigma that men are not supposed to cry because men are supposed to exemplify the rock you lean on and the worker bees. It honestly depends on what type of man is crying and for what reason. Truthfully, men usually are less psychologically and emotionally in touch with their feelings due to peer pressure of "being manly" all the time. So, men will be unaware of any internal issues and underlying medical, psychological, emotional and traumatic issues from the past. As for me, I study psychology and have been in special ed. I have awareness because I've always had to deal with my mental disorder interfering with my ability to work a normal job, get easily distracted and then lose prioritizing the more important task at hand.
When a typical guy cries, it's usually for serious long term future crisis like serious impracticalities in their life which can cause depression and worry for god knows how long because men usually aren't good or familiar with dealing with emotions since they've been pushing things under the rug and prioritizing other things in life due to how most men all peer pressure us to be "tough & manly" when in reality you can truly be tough when you dont spend as much time with your emotions and feelings than other emotional and feeler types.
There can be different reasons that a guy/man/boy cries.
Yes we are toughed from the childhood on that boys don't cry especially if you grew up in a matriarchal family. In addition to that we guys do not getting taught how to deal with emotions at all.
So most of the time we cry when everything gets overwhelming and we can't deal with the pain anymore, be it sadness, pain anger... But even then we are able to contain it until we are somewhere where we are safe and our pillow becomes at issue for our tears.
It is a rather sad but that is at least it from what I know and also the way how two of my best friends and I deal with it.
Males get stressed, males get hurt, males get tired, males get sick, males have family - friends - and others they care about pass away in death. They go through hardships, face adversity. Just like females. Males, and females alike are human. Men over the years have just tried not to show those emotions because they take it upon themselves to be strong for the ones they care about. It's a trait of selflessness. It doesn't make anyone weak if they cry in front of others. It just gives the a feeling of weakness. A feeling they are letting others down. there's a lot of Psychology that goes into it.
If we cry it's probably because we're sad.
Look at all these dudes in here projecting how manly they are by claiming real men don't cry. They're pandering for your attention by advertising their lack of emotions as if that's a good thing. They're trying to climb over each other and win attention by claiming to be the most emotionless guy around. It's hilarious. All these guys are going to be drowning in alcohol when they're middle-aged because they never developed a healthy way to show their emotions.
The wall they've been hiding their feelings behind is broken down in that moment. That wall will come back up really quickly, and stronger depending on the guy.
Showing emotions like this is labeled by society as weakness to a man because we are supposed to 'man up' and take hardships with a smile. Yes, women also face these hardships. But there lie's the difference: One is reassured and the other is called a p*ssy.
But it's not really anyone's fault. Guy's are like this by choice. It's so we seem stronger than we actually are. But in the end, we are still human. And when sad times hit hard, the mask of strength falls away.
Bi-polar disorder, ptsd, manic depression.
The ex won't let him see his kids. He just found out a kid isn't his and he's on the birth certificate and didn't know she cheated. The wife suddenly left for another man and demands a divorce, and she's being greedy wanting the stuff he worked for. Its been years since my ex took my kids, a man just can't get over that unless he is a psychopath or a billionaire that can do something new and exciting everyday to distract himself from the pain. War: Watching brother's in arms die or become seriously wounded, watching women and kids get blown to pieces.
Death in the family: Their child died. A mother, father, brother, or sister died. Their best friend died.
Often by the time a guy physically cries, he has been trying to be too strong for too long. A guy has been crying on the inside for a long time before he physically cries. This is often a result of society not allowing men to cry or at least judging them because they are expected to always be strong. They aren't allowed to be human.
A grown man knows that it's okay to have emotions. That is what makes him a man.
Emotionally, a girl becomes a woman when she becomes stronger than her emotions and doesn't let her emotions completely dictate her decisions or actions and becomes emotionally stable. By default, females are introverted thinkers.
Emotionally, a boy becomes a man when he accepts that he actually has emotions and can deal with them and be emotionally stable. Rarely if ever will a Man let emotions dictate his actions and decisions. By default, males are logical and extroverted thinkers.
Because we have emotions. We can feel pain too. We exist. Usually we don't want to cry because we will probably get laughed at and get called weak, but in reality we hurt.
We often commit suicide a lot more often than women because if we let our emotions out then we get outcasted. If we get abused we usually get the response akin to "you probably did something to deserve it," or just get laughed at and told that it's not valid.
We have a lot of weight on our shoulders. If we cry, that means that we're truly hurting. We cannot bottle it up fast enough for it to be hidden.
Just like how you have emotions, we do too.
Most guys are socially conditioned not to cry. Obviously some guys aren't. However, let's talk about the ones that are, because they're the ones that this question addresses.
Crying is a kind of expression of emotion. A showing of vulnerability.
It's a sign that something was beyond our ability to handle.
It's ultimately just viewed as a sign of weakness, which comes from both social conditioning, and primal instinct.
For me, I automatically suppress the impulse to cry. It has only happened twice in the past 10 years that the impulse was strong enough that I couldn't hold it back in time. Even then they lasted less than 30secs. Once when my cats passed away, and the other when my grandmother passed away. I had even tried to force my self to cry afterwards, thinking that it's what I should be doing. I couldn't.
If a guy cries there's a good chance it involves the permanent loss of something.
Males learn from an early age that showing emotion is exposing weakness. Many young sensitive men are teased and harassed incessantly until they almost never do. So when a guy cries, it leaves them feeling quite vulnerable. Rarely will a guy cry around anyone they don't feel completely safe with. Unless it's completely fake thinking they can get something out of it.
Only at funerals. God I suck at funerals, the thought of death overwhelms me.
Some random ass family member that I met maybe 5-6 times died. Everyone there was static except for me, crying the whole way through.
It was my first and only ever time though, hopefuly I can grow over it at some point.
Bruh... People cry for different reasons. I don't know why Dave or Jimmy started to cry. Maybe he's remembering something sad, maybe his friend/family member died, maybe he's in pain... I don't know. Maybe he's just that happy.
It could literally mean all kinds of things when out of context and when no details are provided.
It means he's hurt, emotionally, mentally or physically.
Why do you cry?
It's said you sad to ask this considering we ARE ALL HUMAN. WE'RE THE SAME.
It's just that plenty of men grew up told to hide their emotions, to not show that they're hurting, to be "manly" - and even in this day and age societal standards and expectations are still heavily in that favour too.
1) If he’s over 16 and he got physically hurt then he’s weak.
2) Someone important to him died or is otherwise lost to him
3) he has a very emotionally troubling idea in his head (he’s thinking of suicide, he lost something of himself that was valuable)
That’s really it.
It means one of two things:
1. Someone died
2. He just witnessed something so beautiful, he couldn't hold his emotions in. Like, his favorite team won the Superbowl. Or he's inside a whiskey distillery
I wouldn't be too quick to infer meaning from a passing physiological event. Crying is a bodily reaction to extreme negative emotion or deeply upsetting thoughts. Talk to him. Be patient and gentle. Let him know he can confide in you if he wants, that you won't judge him or think less of him. He'll probably tell you what's up if he's not worrying how you'll react.
Really in pain or there is really something wrong so when a Guy cries go talk to him, i also always hide my feeling and i AM shy so when i Burst i AM happy i have this one girlfriend that is there for me
Girl it means lots of shit for us. Whether it someone died, heck even a tv show or movie if it hits them hard, their dog died, they had a break up with someone, etc etc. It shows we also have emotions in us. It's always about oh we're guys we dont cry, guys who cry are pussies and aren't real men, like bitch thats toxic masculinity
cuz of many things like cutting onions or burnt flesh to many more
thanks 👍😊
Ummm... because guys are humans with feelings too? If he cries in public then he's having trouble controlling his feelings. Can't hold it inside him.
same as for girls tbh, it's just educational. the classic "strong man" implies that we guys don't cry.
But if i'm in pain in any sort of way (emotionally hurt, physically hurt) or if i'm seeing some sad scene in a movie or something i'll cry like a normal person would.
I cry when I think about how i rarely get to see my daughter.
I just think of the good times we had when I lived with her, and how Im barred from the simplest things like, riding our bikes to school together in the morning. The cards she wrote me when I first moved out (she's only 7 and it's been 8 months) it absolutely kills me.
Because just like us woman, they have feelings and emotions that they express too. If they are upset or in pain, they might cry, the same us 🤷🏻♀️ everyone's human
Something catastrophic has happened, that's what it means, like mom dying or putting down the dog or, in my case, the pizza burned. I cry like a bitch when the pizza turns to cinder. Such potential deliciousness...
Gone...
It means that he feels comfortable enough with whoever he is with to show the side he doesn't usually get to without being shamed for being a pussy.
Usually when guys cry, it's just like when girls cry. They're hurt. Badly. And they can't control their emotions anymore. Guys are supposed to be, in the eyes of society at least, strong and emotionless, able to take anything thrown at them. But we are human too. We have limits. We have feelings. We have hearts.
Well, people generally cry because their sad, so... I would assume if a guy cries it means he's sad.
For the exact same reason a woman cries. He hurts. He loves. He hates. He's scared. He's human, so he cries.
We vry because we are human and have to let it out at some point, and if we do, we do it alone.
We never want to cry or display emotion in front of people because it conveys weakness
If a guy crys then that means that some where deep in them they love something about you 🌹but some fake their cry just get you back cause they know they messed up by leaving you 🤷♂️
Ok so in this day and age men are supposed to be manly, though, strong and secure right. For a lot of guys there is pride involved bc society have taught us to not cry, some guys are more emotional and don't mind crying in front of others. While most others feel weak and vulnerable of they cry, but if a guy that never really shows emotion cry in front of you he trust you and feel like he can let go, at least that is what i think
Because men have actual feelings, and are not robots?
Can I ask you a question
Doesn't mean anything other than the fact that he's human some men are more emotional than others and some try to hide it by not showing it but even the strongest valves leak eventually
Same reason children cry. They are emotionally minded.
Men don't cry because of evolutionary traits from when we were animals and needed to protect.
We don't have time for emotional nonsense, we have to keep things going.
We deal with emotions internally and by ourselves.
Yes, some times we do cry when things are absolutely overwhelming, but our version of overwhelming is much different.
I cried cause after everything I did for a girl , for her life , be there for her most difficult times and she rejected and shamed me just because I was a virgin guy , like loser or something to her. She liked me too initially but rejected cause she wanted a more experienced partner for her and to her I deserve better. I realised crying is bad for guys , most like emotionally unavailable men most even if they say different
If a guy cries, it's because he is experiencing intense emotions (like any female who's crying) and doesn't feel afraid of showing it.
1. He's sad or depressed, often profoundly.
2. Suffers from a psychological or neurological condition where crying is a sign. One random example: pseudobulbar affect.
YOU'RE JOKING RIGHT? BECAUSE IF YOU'RE NOT YOU NEED TO ORDER A SPECIAL JACKET AND A PRIVATE RUBBER ROOM!!
Why?
It's hard in general to let down walls that expose ourselves and when we do it's to someone like our mother so if it's someone other than the women who gave us life it's our way of showing trust in that person to carry our pain.
Sometimes we can't hold it in, like when I was saying goodbye to my dog of 12 years, Katie
personaly it means that what ever their crying about is a big deal to them, it is something that even if they want to hide their emotions, they just can't hold it back
I cried when my dad died. I will cry again when my mom dies. Other than that, I haven't cried since I was a very small child.
If a guy cries he's sad or his feelings are hurt - just the same as when you cry.
And real men DO cry. At least this one does.
I think it's because they are what's called a 'human'? This means they are allowed to show emotion and care about things.
It happens, yes its embarrassing but at some point even men like kahl Drogo (from game of thrones) have to let it all out sometimes even just a tear. give it years, decades, a time will come when when men need to empty and recharge.
He realised that women are a joke and he's finding it hard to deal with as that is the only option for him as he's straight.
All men cry at one , but its not the done thing, what a load of rubbish. Me I cry at film and news items wife use to call me an old softy , its something I cannot help doing...
It really depends on the situation. I cry when I am overwhelmed with emotion, but not with pain. Some guys cry with pain. I think though that most guys cry when emotionally overwhelmed, usually with sadness.
Guys do cry because it’s expressing their emotions and they are human.
If a man cries, it means that goddamned cunt is no good.
Same reason we do. They’re hurt, emotionally or physically
It means that they're humans with emotions. Astounding, I know.
I've never seen a man cry nor would i want to.
Not masculine at all
I think being more masculine is holding in emotions so that someone becomes depressed and emotionally repressed... Yea that sounds right
And did i ask you @canadiancoloursky?
Go cry in your own comment, i dont have time for that on mine, nor does my opinion change
Lol, 🙃
Must have just gotten his tax bill.
But seriously,
perhaps his pent-up emotions have maxed out and his emotional "dam" finally burst.
Lmao the tax part was hilarious
It means he is sad or distressed or overjoyed or... basically that he's human.
It means he's real, that he's comfortable with showing you his soft side and that he's a real honest man and you just might want to hold on to him! And that's real
Well men have emotions and they can build up and cause crying. Also most men are taught their entire childhood not to cry, so if they are crying something probably hit them really hard emotionally.
He ia in pain.
He is hurt.
He lost something.
His memories.
His is not given what he deserved.
It upset how he is. my boyfriend hardly cries but when he does I can tell
I can cry when im super tired
It means he has a strong and sensitive emotional side
