Guys, would you actually like free compliments as in not ones to flirt but just letting you know you look good today?

I like complimenting people when they look good it just comes naturally. I see guys being mad at girls complaining about getting sexual remarks every time they go out because you don't get a single compliment, but when I do compliment a guy he automatically thinks I'm looking for more when I really don't have any ulterior motive.
Should I not compliment you guys or is there a specific way to make sure you'll understand it's not a flirt but just a girl being nice?
Also why do you have to sexualise a little compliment so fast, even when guys compliment you a lot of you think he's being gay... Why does it all go from 0 to 100 so fast?

I wouldn't see your compliment as flirting. But I definitely do not wanna hear compliments at least now. Though unlike girls we have not been brought up by highlighting every insecurities, there are usually some silent treatment that makes us question everything that we have look wise. Now if we get compliments, if it is just two of us, no problem. But if it is in group, usually other people smile and that our brain makes us think is condescending. So in group, I would not wanna hear any compliment.

But that's from an ugly dude. Maybe others have other experience.

A Girl complementing a guy is quite rare because male species are not complemented more often its how the world runs.
Appreciate his work that's fine it won't fall under flirting.
But if you compliment on his personality traits it's high chance he will think it as flirting because girls flirt like that when they are interested in a man

If someone makes you compliments it's obvious the person wants something. Men usually don't need compliments like "you look good today" for their self esteem. (Maybe some guys do?) Hence a guy will tend to think "she wants something" instead that it's just a friendly gesture

I don't sexualise any compliments. I'm rather oblivious as well, so when I do receive a compliment, half of the time I don't even realise it until after the fact when they mention they complimented me.
I wouldn't mind some positive attention, but it isn't needed. It wouldn't do much for me.
