What does it mean when a guy says “this stays between us” after hooking up?

i obviously know the literal meaning of that phrase but i was just wondering if there’s a deep meaning behind it. does he mean he doesn’t wanna meet me anymore by telling me not to tell anyone or am i just overthinking?

This happend to me too. Girl, he doesn't wanna show you off in that way or others to know about what's happening between you two probably because:
_he's ashamed of you, you can decipher why
_he's cheating on his girlfriend/wife
_he talks to multiple girls and hookups with them an is playing this game with all of you
This guy probably doesn't like you at all, maybe you don't like him too but he's not good for you. He's just visualising you as a sexual object for him, and if he comes to hook up again. What I said is 100% true. Stop overthinking anyway he doesn't deserve that

It mean's keep it between you and him meaning don't tell other about your friend with benefit's keep it quit about being sexual with him. So don't shoot your mouth off to your girlfriend's and he still want's see you.

I'm guessing he is in a relationship. The only other reason I can think of is think he is just using you for sex and doesn't want you two associated together.
