Secret soft spot (friendship)?

Okay I have this friend and he’s not necessarily rude but I don't know how to explain it. Like once he said he’d love to be a vegetable and I asked what vegetable so he told me to leave.
But he once banned someone out of our chat for calling me the b word and when another guy asked me to send him a picture of my face, my friend messaged me alone saying “I hope you’re really not about to send to send him your face.” Does that mean he has a secret soft spot or no?

I said in our group chat that I was gonna go to sleep while he was having a whole argument with someone. But he stopped to tell me to have sweet dreams.

The negative attention you are receiving from him seems to be the [maybe/probably] sexual frustration he feels towards you but doesn't feel reciprocated, manifested as negative-attention seeking. He's also protective of you [lol in an internet way], so he's claiming some responsibility for you hoping you would see his positive-attention seeking.

This is basically childish, if that's not obvious. A relationship with a person who acts like this in real-life could turn horribly into a bad time, as time goes on.

I think so. He sounds protective. Guys get that way when they like someone. If you were just a friend then he wouldn't feel the need to keep tabs on you.
