I added a mutual friend on Instagram, I've never had a conversation with this guy but I think he's cute. After he added me back he would send quick responses to my ig stories even though I didn't respond. Then he sent me a fb request. Every now and then we'll send short replies through dms, nothing serious. Recently my papa died and he gave his condolences which I thought was sweet coming from a guy I've never spoke to in person. So is he gradually making a move/flirting on ig or just being friendly.

First off, I am that girl who hangs out with a bunch of guys and so I've seen this done a lot. Most of the time unless they're interested in you guys simply won't put in the effort responding to instagra stories, etc. Not personal but they just have other things they prefer to do. For a guy asking a girl out is incredibly tough because they're scared of rejection so in an effort to save themselves from it, some choose to move slow. This sounds like what your mutual friend is doing. He wants to build a solid friend basis then make his move, but he's set it up in a way where if it's clear you're uninterested it won't be awkward. Do you like him back?
