Maybe he had to go do something and he was considerate enough to tell you that the conversation you planned couldn’t happen. I wouldn’t read too much into it.

Depends on the context. Might mean "I'm not in a mood to talk right now either because of being tired or angry and I'll talk to you tomorrow when I feel better" or "I'm busy and can't talk now, talk to you later" or "I had fun talking to you. Let's keep talking tomorrow."
