What to do if everyone hates my crush?

I have fallen in love with a guy I met 3 months ago. He’s comes off really sweet and he has my back most of the time. Everyday everyone is so mean to him and they hate him. I had a friend walk over to me and him once and she told him she heard stuff about him. When someone talks about him in a bad way, he avoids eye contact with me and doesn’t want me to hear about it. He is a jerk and he’s rude to everyone but me. He’s so nice to me but he’s rude to others in front of me. The fact that everyone sees that I’m friends with him, makes them hate me too but at the same time it makes them like him.
