What does it mean when a guy says, " I want to take things slow, ESPECIALLY with you."

I thought I understood at the time that he wanted to take things slow out of respect for me because the same night he said that he went on and on about how much he really cares about me..

However, our relationship is moving slower than any relationship that I've ever been in. So I'm rethinking this statement he said when first decided we were dating. I feel like we are still just friends in his mind even though I think much more about him.

I would guess you two talked a bit about your past relationships a bit ... like the quality of and maybe longivity?

Or maybe he has started every relationship too fast and that ends up badly too quickly?

What ever the case He is respecting you I do believe because he wants things to work out so much he is willing to respect the process rather than speed it along which he could do if he wanted... but seriously I never had a great quality relationship from taking all I can get from it right away... When the relationship has respected space for one another and a desire to stay together with trust from afar and easing in slowly than you will not speed over red flags sign and disrespect of each others true motives and intentions...

I wouldn't question his desire for you, I would respect him for being strong enough to go into this with your best interest in mind...

Thank you for the feedback. I like what you said about respecting the process. That really seems to fit his overall personality in general. He is the type who thinks ahead about everything and plans carefully.

It's hard to say because I don't really know the context, but if I said that to a woman it would most likely mean that I think there's a lot of potential there for a great relationship so I don't want to mess it up, or it might mean there's some history of bad relationship stuff he's trying to be sensitive about.

He has told me that he's been afraid of messing things up with me. It took him an entire year to admit how he felt about me and before we were officially "dating." I knew long before he told me but I figured he was (is) worth the wait. Also, he does know about my ex and I know about his so that makes sense about him being sensitive to both of us.. Thank you.

Taking things slow means..the guy doesn't want to take things seriously right away..he wants the relationship to start of as friends get to know you better..if you feel you want to know your status with him ask him if he really loves you or not
