Why do girls love tall guys?

Question

Okay so here is my little soapbox rant! Okay so why do girls love tall guys.  Here is my thinking.  Your like 5'4"ish and you want a guy that is like 6'2".  And I'm going to get crap for this but come on girls, 9/10 of you want a guy that is taller than yourself. So I'm saying by random generation of genes, odds are one of your children will be tall like their father and one short like their mother.  Now what if your girl ends up becoming the child that is 6'2".  Why would you want to make gorilla babies is all I'm asking! Why not just pick a man closer in height to yourself.

Part of it is instinctive -- men tend to look for curvy females who bear the qualities of a good nurturer, women tend to look for tall/broad protective types. We're genetically programmed to conduct a quick visual scope. It used to be necessary for survival and evolution. Now relationships are a little more complex because our focus is no longer survival (in the strictest sense), but enjoyment and satisfaction in life -- we also have a longer life expectancy -- so "happily ever after" involves a much greater overall commitment than it used to.

I'm not sure about the averages you posted. I'm 5'8 and most of the guys I know are either my height or taller. To my knowledge, judging from their reactions, guys like shorter girls.

Some of the taller guys I know are married to shorties (who they avidly pursued) no taller than 5'2 -- I tease those guys for their "travel-size" girlfriends/wives. If you ask them what they like about the girls, they'll say they like to feel like they can protect that little woman, and candidly admit that they enjoy watching their shorty "try to look taller" by wearing killer heels.

Hmm. Evolution. Gotta love it.

I'm extremely short (5ft nothing) and I've never actually met a guy short than me (at least one who was within dating age, plenty of cute 5yr olds are shorter than me lol) so I can't really say if I'd be attracted to shorter guys or not. I've dated both really tall guys and shorter guys (within 5 or so inches of my own height) and I don't really think height was at all a factor in my decision to date them. If I meet a guy I like, my LAST thought is "oh, he's too big, we might have a freakishly tall daughter if we had kids!". Descriminating against guys much taller than myself is just as bad as girls not dating guys because they're too short. As dani42595 said, we all have our preferences in what attracts us. Sad but true, most women are attracted to men taller than themselves. My only advice if you're a short guy- go for short girls...

If you have to date a tall guy , because you need to feel protected, by him. Don't you think that would ultimately affect you in a negative way mentally? How would you not feel paranoid the 150 odd hours a week you are NOT around him. Or would you stay holed up at home until he comes over, & take care of business only when he is around. That is a rediculous reason to date a guy. Unless you want to be completely incompetent on your own. imo.

lol women over 6' are gorillas now? I guess we can tell a lot of models that. I think it is more of a psychological thing... Many people both men and women who are short wish they were taller and many people that are abnormally tall both men and women wish they fit in more. So naturally those people would be drawn to each other. I know being 6'5" I'm not quite tall enough to get stared at wherever I go but I am borderline and have always been attracted to girls much shorter than I am. I would definitely date a tall girl though if I really liked her. This doesn't usually effect people of average height because they can blend in more and aren't constantly reminded of their height wherever they go so it is probably hard for you to understand.

My mom is 5'4" and my dad is like 6'4", and me and my sister and brother are pretty much average height so I think your theory is lacking... anyway, I wouldn't care if I had a daughter that ended up being 6'2", more power to her. :D

I just think it would be awkward to date a guy significantly shorter than me. I'm like 5'4" and as long as the guy is my height it wouldn't matter, even if he was like an inch shorter or so it wouldn't bother me that much. It works the other way too, though, most guys probably wouldn't want to date a girl much taller than them.

There is multiple reasons, but not all girls prefer tall men.  Some of the most common reasons is because tall men make them feel safe, & taken care of.  Tall men also intimidate others, which is nice for a woman because usually men try to intimidate women, especially in a business related way.  Women don't feel like others will threaten her if she has a strong man next to her, & feels like no one will take advantage of her.  For example, if a woman walks into a car dealership by herself, the cardeal will do everything in his power to take advantage of her.  But if the same woman walks in with a big guy, the car dealer will be more intimidated & least likely to try to pull a fast one.

Not a lot of girls like tall guys... For instance, I like my guy to be just about my height (I'm 5'3). I don't mind shorter ones and taller ones as well. For as long as we get along well and that we've been friends for a while, I'd stick with him. Without inserting my preference when it comes to personality though, any guy who goes above 5'11 max scares me :'(  5'6 to 5'8 is just about right <3

I'm 5'8" and I'd like a guy to be my height or taller, mostly because this one guy I almost dated and really like was two inches shorter than me and he made such a big deal about it all the time :/ So to ever avoid a guy who would be made insecure about me being taller, I prefer them to be my height or taller :P

It is just a preference. Maybe it is subconscious from the time when being tall, big and strong was the best qualities in a man ensuring finding food and protection? I don't know, but I love feeling small and safe in the arms a big man.

Tall girls can be models, just saying. It's not bad for a girl to be tall. I like a guy taller than me because it feels strange if I'm taller than him. I can deal with same height but it's upsetting because I love to wear heels.

I' 5'-5" and for me only reason I am with taller guys is just because most of the guys I see are taller than me.  I would have a real challenge to find guys my height or less.  It's not a mindset that I have to have a "taller guy"

a tall guy can wrap their arms around you and yeah make you feel safe.  Girls like to look up to their boyfriends to protect them and they like to be able to parade them around like a new toy lol sad but true.  If you act taller and more mysterious, trust me, you will get more girls. girls like what they can't have and they always need to figure things out
