I'm really good friends with this guy but whenever I start to beat him at a sport he gets in my way to take me down lol. Why?

I’m progressing in skill more quickly (white water kayaking) so when I have a good run he’ll bump into me to knock me off course.

Maybe. He's a good laugh and is popular and kind so I don't want to make him sound bad. But he got me into that sport and as soon as I started doing better he'd try and playfully bump into me and things to put me off, not harshly. And he'd do it and then say "you're doing too well" lol
