He liked me first but I live far away and my family isn’t a fan of his lifestyle so he got with a different girl. So, why does he still look for me?

You'd have to ask him, but my assumption is because he wants to be with you, but doesn't feel like he had that option. So he hangs around hoping the situation will change.

Honestly, I liked him too but we were far and he knew very well that my family didn't approve of his lifestyle. We had a good connection but at one point it another he ended up getting with someone else and he never told me... I had to ask around. Despite him having a new girl, he would show up again talking about... I forgot him and that he feels comfortable when he talks to me.

Then things went south with some decent issues in his life and he told someone that he only cares about living in peace with his family and girlfriend.

Well of course that's what he's going to tell people. No one advertises when they wish things could be a bit different. Still, he made a choice and he has to live with that.

To be honest, I was left heartbroken. Or do you think maybe I confused his friendship for something more? I mean, if he saw me as a friend... he would’ve mentioned his girlfriend, right?

That depends on the kind of guy he is. If he's the honest sort, yeah, he would have told you about his girlfriend or it would have come up at some point. Since it didn't come up, I have to assume he was intentionally trying to hide it. Which may be because he liked you and wanted to leave the possibility of a relationship open or because he just wanted the attention of two women instead of one. I don't know what kind of guy he is, so the only person who really knows why is him.

What do you recommend I do?

Well, were I in your position... No matter what his reasons were, he chose to be with someone else and he chose to hide it. Either of those things is reason enough to me to move on. If he really wanted to be with you, don't you think he would have tried a little harder? Moved out to you? Tried to get you to move out to him? Tried to win your parents over or at least put up with their disapproval, so long as you approved of him? He didn't do those things, did he? If he doesn't care enough to put in the effort to be with you, why are you wasting your time worrying about him? There's someone else out there worth your attention waiting for you to come into their life. I wouldn't keep them waiting.
