Why would a guy hide his child from a woman he’s dating?

Single dads are rare, custody is hard to fight for in certain states, and the explanation is usually never a pleasant conversation to have.

Applause for him being a dad! Keep your mouth shut and move on if you're not commiting for the long term or think he's seeing someone else.

Be a good friend and ask yourself do you care about him? If so approach the conversation truthfully. Ask how you can be more involved in his life and state you know he has a child and if you care for the guy you'll learn about him and the family story. Be supportive, and if its not what you want kindly...
for the sake of the child he is caring for, explain yourself politely and move on.

It breaks down to trust and protection and no one wants to feel unstable.

Have no clue ,, because for me that's the first person your going to meet,, and to be honest the odds are you meant him first lol, my son would watch me help a lot of people , if we would go to a store he would see somebody with their Hood up on their car, he would have to run over there, ask what's wrong. That's actually unsettling to me. I have kids. I tell everyone I have kids. They are a part of this package. A guy won't meet them until I'm comfortable introducing them. I understand that, to most, kids are baggage and will send them running, so personally it's something I would start out with. Save both of our time. Honestly if a guy hides he had his kids, he's obviously a terrible person who would probably hide he has another girlfriend or wife from someone he's dating. Plus he's obviously ashamed of them and that's definitely not a good thing.

Oh God, isn’t that annoying? I had that happen to me too, where the guy didn’t mention he had a kid until the third date. The third date! I would never date a single dad and I think most men know that having a kid lowers their value to women. I think he had hoped that I would have “gotten to know him” by that point and that I could ignore the fact that he had offspring... no! It was just a huge red flag.

I was dating a guy before for like 2 months.
One time I was at his place and saw a pic of a little girl on his fire place. I asked him who it was and he replied "my daughter" but don't worry, I hardly see her...
Yeah,... shortly after that, I decided he wasn't my type. Not because he had a daughter, but for the fact he hardly saw her
We remained friends and stuff but that was an eye opener for me whatbkind of person he was

it’s obviously not usually an opening comment but I do bring it up on first date and within the hour usually.

she’s someone I am immensely proud of, so I am going to mention her.

It’s a large red flag to me, if he’s hiding this face, what other things is he failing to mention.

Because just as some guys are so be it the same as for girls. Some people fear the view of others and themselves on raising or being a part a child’s life that isn't theirs and/or the other parent also being involved. The other reason could be because until their somewhat confident the relationship will last, there no reason to put that on the child of continuing to meet someone how ever often. Could just mean it’s a booty call to him.

So you dont investigate why his relationship didn't work. He might not have learned from his bad choice yet and doesn't want you to be jealous of his previous sexual bond with the childs mother. Its probably for your peace of mind more than his because women often get jealous of other women.

Because you’re dating. You don’t know one another well enough to trust them. And if you don’t trust them yet you don’t want them around your child. Also if it’s not going to go anywhere serious. Then there’s absolutely no point in an introduction. A parent needs to date this person however long enough the feel they need to to know if it will be worth the whole scenario. Just give it time. If it works out the children will eventually be around.

It could be many reasons. If he has custody of his son, it could mean that he doesn't want to expose his son to different women into his his lives if the relationship is not serious. If he hasn't made it known that he is a single father and etc. Another thing might be that he is worried that being a father is a deal breaker as I know a few women that wouldn't consider dating a single father

I think its bc they don't want the person their dating to know that they were close enough to someone to the point they had a child and that things didn't work out between them. Maybe they first want the person their dating to get to know them better before revealing that complicated story.
