Why do some guys act careless when really they’re not?

Why do some guys put on an act that make them believe they’re heartless and careless when they know damn well they’re the complete opposite?

I have this guy friend who is in denial of liking me when I always catch him staring at me and he smiles a little when I go to talk to him.

But sometimes especially when he’s around his friends, he tell me that he doesn’t care about anything except for his family and keep saying he’s heartless and blah blah blah.

There’s been times where he would help me with stuff like if I can’t reach it, he’ll come by and get it for me. And when someone was bothering me he showed concern and wanted me to talk to him about it. He even said it bothered him that someone was messing with me.

He even looks at me while a love song is playing and he would sing it trying to get my attention

Is there a chance he thinks you’re out of his league? From high school to retirement homes there’s usually a pecking order to be followed. Wether it’s fair or not it happens quite often that there’s an implied intimidation to dating outside a certain circle.


Example; popular ambitious guy asks reserved career oriented girl out. Common result is she doesn’t see any class or decorum in his behavior so she declines. Although she might want to accept, she may be targeted by others in the ‘popular’ group due to jealousy or feeling cheated out of a potential relationship/friendship.


Example 2; Upbeat goofball girl wants to pursue a quiet introverted guy, but doesn’t want to put him through the stress of associating with extroverts she hangs out with and potentially causing a socially awkward misunderstanding.

That could be the case because he was actually surprised that I’ve never kissed or been out with a guy before. He assumed I was already taken and when I told him no and explained everything he thought I wasn’t into guys

Sometimes women project care onto guys when it isn't there. But also sometimes guys are reluctant to admit caring about something because then it becomes a vulnerabilty - if attacked someone can attack the thing they care about, which is usually a much easier target.

Not that we do much "attacking" in civilized society, but the instinct is still there.

Because women take advantage and start attacking like chihuahuas.

And don't let me talk about how they stsrt judging after a while.

We are like birds to them they try to haunt us and when they do they are like meeh and throw us.
