How do I know if he's actually interested or if he's just playing mind games?

So I've been talking to a guy for 3 weeks now, he wanted to "be friends for now" but after a few conversations he all of a sudden wants to go on a date with me and he replies to my stories everyday on social media? Is it normal for guys to just flip their emotions like that? I feel like the change of heart was so sudden, we hadn't even met yet. We'll have some conversations here and there but often times he'll leave the conversation off on a high note and I don't understand. I want to give him the benefit of the doubt because I actually am really interested in him but I don't want to get hurt.

I feel like he does show interest by replying everyday to my story and always having something to say but the flip was just so quick and sudden it caught me off guard? What would you recommend I do and what are some signs to watch out for? Is this even something to worry about?

What this means is that he was talking to you a few other girls over the past three weeks. The other gals figured him out and bailed, which left just you. Of course his attitude towards you changed.

That sounds nice... if it is in fact true. Being a man I know how men think and it just sound promising. Even if I was 23 again (I wish), as a man I can't put myself in your shoes. If I was 23 and a girl who said that she just wanted to be friends suddenly changed her mind, I'd go out with her in a heartbeat. Guys are like that, so they hope that girls are too. You can always hand him the same thing back by telling him that for now you'd like to be friends. If he bails, you have your answer. If he's willing to stick around, give him a chance. You seem like a level headed young woman. I'm sure you'll make the right choice.

I would rather not ask as I hate confrontation and feel like confronting him and his feelings so early on will be intimidating for him. I'd rather just look for hints and clues as I am also trying to figure out my feelings for him as well.
