Does he like me as a friend, or does he have interest and just taking it slow?

A guy I’ve been friends w/ for 20 years just split from his girlfriend. My boyfriend and I broke up almost 9 months ago. Its the first time we’ve both been single at the same time. We have always kept in touch here and there, but now since his break up he has talked to me pretty much on a daily basis. If time does pass without talking it’s not usually more than a day or two. We’ve hung out 3 times, first time he finally visited his friends house and invited me over, his friend bought the house 2 years ago and has been asking him to come by his friend lives down the street from me. He’s joined me and my mom to the drive in on Mother’s Day. I invited him a few weeks before but thought he forgot and the night before he text me at 2 am when he was drinking with his dad asking if we are still gonna go which I was surprised bc I didn’t want to come off pushy. So we went, both laughed a lot and I feel it went really well, it was the most fun I’ve had in awhile. When the night ended he said he had a blast and wants to do it again. Another time he last minute asked me to come over and hang with him and watch a movie at his dads house to also see the indoor theater they both built. It was just his dad his girlfriend, him and I. We all had a lot of fun he made me popcorn and got me drinks and stuff and had a great time again. When I was saying goodbye to his dad and his dads girlfriend inside he was already waiting outside I said goodbye and he gave me a kiss on the cheek which I wasn’t sure was just a friendly one. The two other times we hung out he didn’t do that while saying goodbye but other people were around. I messaged his dad the next day to thank him for having me over and he said of course we love you, you’re the best , go marry my son. It took me off guard, but they are super close. We haven’t spoke as much lately he's helping his dad after his surgery. Not sure how to go about things bc he’s hard to read. I’m patient he needs some time after a break up anyway.

Probably go check up on him and ask him if he needs a hand with his dad. Right now letting him know that you got his back is really what counts. Let him know that he can also rely on you and be a good friend even if it sounds like you're already catching feelings for the guy.

Hey thank you for your response ! I let him know prior to his dads surgery if he needed anything or any help to let me know, and asked him how his dad has been and how he’s holding up, he said he’s swamped with work bc they run a business together online, wns he’s taking care of his dad. Still talk pretty regularly just not as much bc I’m sure he’s busy. Im terrible with picking up Signs if someone is into me. I’m hoping with time it will be more obvious. I always feel people should take some time for themselves when getting out of a relationship too. I’ve had feelings for him for 20 years just never acted in anything bc I just kind of accepted things as they were and I was in a very long term relationship so of course I didn’t pursue or think of anyone that way. Just recently though we have seen to be getting closer. He will text me over little things like getting vaccinated and not feeling good etc. just hope the feelings are mutual.

Trust me dear , it sounds like the feeling is mutual but we can't be too sure unless it really comes from him whether its verbal or he shows it. But its a good sign already that he's taking the time off his busy sched to talk to you or update you even if its just about random things. Also, give him time to heal but also let him know that you care about him. Sometimes surprising him by doing thoughtful favours like bring him homemade cookies, or stopping by the groceries and grabbing him something he likes/ needs just to let him know you're thinking of him helps too.

You liked him for 20 years now is not the time to let it go by lololol. Good luck!

Awesome thank you! You do make me feel I am doing something right, the night I went to his dads I gave him a picture I drew for him and framed it. I’m eventually tattooing it on him but he told me what he wanted for his grandmother and surprised him with it. I’m def not gonna give up just don’t want to overwhelm him so it’s hard to find that balance. I don’t want to miss out on the opportunity to be with someone who’s a good fit for me. Thanks again!

Not sure what you mean by don’t give it up? Like don’t give up on the opportunity? We have known each other a long time so we both have a lot of respect for each other. I don’t want to push him to rush into a relationship when he needs time for himself a little bit after a break up. His last one was mentally exhausting.
