Does he like me romantically or just as a friend?

I met a guy in my independent study class a few weeks ago who I really like, but I can’t tell if he likes me or is just being friendly. When we first met, I thought he might be gay just because of certain mannerisms, but I wasn’t sure. He is very friendly and outgoing with everyone, which makes it harder to figure out the situation!

He often makes jokes or a comment and then smiles at me and sometimes it feels like kind of prolonged eye contact. He’s always asking my opinions on random things, and striking up conversation. He also asks to borrow things constantly, and always stands really close to me when we’re talking, but I don’t know if that’s just a quirk of his. He’ll sometimes whisper different things to me he’s thinking or heard someone saying (hard to explain without context haha). He also offers to help me all the time, get things for me, etc. He teases me sometimes, and when we talk he always has this big smile and seems really interested in what I’m saying… but I don’t know if I’m reading too much into it. I just can’t figure out if someone would act this way with someone they’re just being friendly with? What do you think?

It can go lots of ways he either thinks of you in a I want you type way or another one he might just be that type of guy that is friendly and doesn't really think much of how he is or rubbs off cause I can't lie I'm jus that guy that listens to what people are telling me but I do have a soft spot for CERTAIN FEMALES but not in that way I just give them my undivided attention cause I'm just that type of person which is why it can be a tricky situation

He is a very gregarious person, so that does make it difficult to tell! I guess there’s no way to know for sure, I’ll just have to wait it out.

Not yet, but I’ve been told I tend to come off as a little stand offish to people at first, so he might not have been able to tell I was interested. I don’t meant to be, it’s just because I’m introverted and a little nervous around people I don’t know well, but I’ve only really been making a real effort to be friendly the past couple of days! So I’ll just have to see what happens.
