Why would a guy bother to text me and congratulate me on something since we aren’t friends and last time when we messaged each other was 8 months ago?

He got a notification from LinkedIn in or something and was bored and just sent a simple congratulation. Nothing to read into these actions today. I get them from some people I never really had much contact with. I can only assume they do it to everyone in their network.

Long time we talked in person in group setting because of our mutual friends. When he sees me in public he usually stares at me and sometimes very obviously. I followed him in Instagram and eventually started to reply to his stories l.

he did like to talk to me. I then got frustrated and didn't initiate contact with him and neither did he either.

Recently he congratulate me on something and last time when we messaged each other was 8 months ago.

It's hard to say. Maybe he likes you and is in a different place in his life now and is interested in re-opening the conversation with you? Maybe he enjoyed talking with you then, and this was a way for him to subtly open that door, without having to directly comment on the past? Maybe there was nothing behind it and it was a random thing? Can't really say. This is slightly different, but I had an ex contact me out of the blue one day asking me for a favor. We hadn't talked in a long, long time, however I do still consider her a friend. I couldn't help but analyze it to death looking for "meaning" or ulterior motives, but after it passed, realized there was none at all. For whatever reason she just thought of me and thought I could help her. That was it. It might be something like that and meant nothing really?
