It is more than possible he really does just not want to have a grudge so he can feel more calm about the situation. Since the relationship was never sexual (as per your reply to another opinion) I would keep my distance, if you don't hold a grudge you tell him you don't hold a grudge and wish him the best in life, no need to be in contact to likely repeat why you lost touch originally.
