Why does my guy friend do this?

• I have a guy friend, I admitted to him last year that I liked him. He said he's known that for a long time. He never said if he liked me or not. When he is drinking, he likes to flirt with me and he'll open my Snapchat messages right away and reply. When sober, he doesn't flirt with me at all. He'll leave my messages on open, doesn't reply, sometimes he does, and always views my story. He gives mixed signals too. He'll call me dude sometimes, and treat me just like a friend when sober. It's just whenever he drinks, he gets very flirtatious with me. If he happens to be drunk that night, and I posted selfies on my Snap story, he comments on it. He would comment with hearts or heart face emojis. Just this year on July 4, he was really drunk that night and was being very flirtatious in Snap messages. I told him I was shy and nervous with him acting that way. He replied with, "When I see you, you get me all nervous. 😍😍" Also when he was sober one time, we were in a group voice chat and he told a guy jokingly, "Don't talk to me like that in front of my woman." and then laughs. Alcohol is obviously effecting his mood and personality. But alcohol consumption does make a person more honest as they are in a delirious state of mind. Their is a small possibility that he actually likes you, but is not confident enough to tell and so when he drinks he opens up but ends up flirtatious. But that is only in a small possibility, many people change after alcohol consumption, you should try to talk to him about this.

Maybe he has more courage when he's drinking or you look cuter

That could be a potentially unhealthy situation to be in.
If he can't soberly express and act on these feelings then don't feed into them
Put your feelings first, love.

You may just be romanticizing the idea of being with him because he seems out of reach and there's attraction there.

Guys like this piss me off because they leave you all bothered and confused. I honestly think he isn’t interested and only contacts you when drunk because he is probably horny and knows that you like him so he thinks you’d be an easy lay. Maybe I’m wrong but that’s what I think. If I were you I’d ask him straight up if he likes you (when he’s sober) and if he says he isn’t or gives a vague answer like last time, then I’d stop talking to him for a while so you can finally move on
