Do they move closer to her area to raise the chances for her to greet him?

The other night I noticed a guy friend go to his car and yell goodbye to his friends while I was talking to my female friend. When he yelled bye, I turned around and noticed it was him. I called him to say hi and he grinned. I noticed he only went to his car as I was heading to mine. This is not the first time he's went to my area while I talk to my friends.
