Why did my exes best friend message me?

He saw me on a dating site but the pictures are so old. I had to swipe through my Facebook profile pics to find only two that matched. He said he was only checking if I was hacked but before I even dated my ex he didn’t even give me the time of day and we really know eachother other than on Facebook cause it was just a coincidence that we were mutuals. I do remember that my ex was weird about me meeting his best friend and his girlfriend at the time too but I don't know
