Why did my crush's friend message me?

So I kind of like this guy at my college. We've only just met a few weeks ago. He flirts with me sometimes and he told mutual friends he thinks I'm cute but nothing has actually happened between us.

But someone who claims to be his friend messaged me on facebook the other day. This random guy from Africa who I don't know messaged me on facebook saying "Hi, how are you? I'm [my crush's name]'s friend." And tried to chat to me about how he knows my crush.

Why would my crush's friend (1) find me on facebook and (2) message me? The only mutual friend we have is my crush so I don't even know how he found my profile in the first place.

That is kinda random and sus that your crush's "friend" messaged you out of nowhere like that. A few possibilities:

- Your crush might have mentioned you to his friend and given your name so he could look you up on socials. But still weird for his boy to slide into your DMs directly.

- It could be that this dude isn't actually friends with your crush at all and just pretended to know him to try chatting you up. Kinda creepy and dishonest move.

- Maybe he's tryna shoot his shot himself by acting like he's just "helping out" his boy get to know you better or something. Pretty sly bro move if that's the case lol.

I'd be polite but short with this dude, say you're not really looking to chat with randos online. And you could maybe casually ask your crush who all his friends are, see if this guy's name comes up. If it was me I might mention it happened just to give my guy a heads up, you never know peoples' true intentions on here ya know? Stay cautious sis!

Sounds like someone made a fake profile to chat you up because they are immature and bored. Maybe it was your crush trying to see if you would talk to randoms. Maybe it was someone that knows you and is trying to get information or entertainment from you chatting to a fake person. I would just ignore or block them entirely.

Maybe he saw you on your crush’s people thought you were attracted, or your crush mentioned you to him.
