I usually just use nonverbal sighns which works for me cause woman usually understand and reciprocate it but im not sure how it is the other way around or if guys have learned to do this. It sure makes life easyer though

Tell her straight up, be honest and see how the chips fall... I've done the be patient, hint around, be her friend, and basically doing things that made it seem like we were dating without any of the affectionate aspects of dating.
Id make an effort to get to know her, and find out what she was all about.
I would say, "I like you". But most guys have an ego as fragile as an egg.
