The list of people I am willing to help is very short in general. Simply because too many people have taken advantage of willingness to help one to many times. Some people can treat help as if it's a expectation. You saying "Do all guys want something in return from a girl when they're attracted to her? I thought they'd do it for free?" really makes make me think you do. Maybe he would have helped you if you where willing to get him some food from McDonalds?
A man will not deal with you in the first place unless he has some kind of interest in you. I want you to know that every "guy friend" you may have, has had romantic thoughts about you. So yes, most men will want something in return that'll help increase his chances.
Or some men will do a lot of favours for a woman in the hopes of something more and eventually gets into the friendzone and loses all hope lol.

I mean yeah , I would try my luck for sure. He’s just using it as an excuse to get what he wants but finds that’s the only way to ease into it without it all failing
