Why didn't he want to take the money when a while ago he said he needed money?

A few months ago this guy said he needed money. So I left money for him where he works. And then when he saw me the other day he said he couldn't take the money. And that I can't spend a lot of money on him. He kept saying he couldn't take it and that he has to give it back. He said he appreciates it though I told him I wanted him to have it. And I told him I would tell him why later. He was doing something in the back and I didn't want to keep him from his work.

The next time I see him I'm going to tell him why I gave him the money.

If I wouldn't accept money from someone it'd be because I feel like it's my problem and my responsibility.

That and I wouldn't want anyone to think I'm using them for money.

I don't know exactly what was said, but if I said something like I need a job or a car to someone I wouldn't expect them to get it for me.

He works as a cashier at a store and when I was standing in his line behind another customer he yelled out "I need money" and he looked at me.
