How do you understand this guy?

I met him at friends place last year. We have a lot in common…so We kept in touch. He seems a bit shy/not confident un himself.

I proposed him to meet in a casual way both of us several times but he always found an excuse not to come..
A few weeks after he invited me to join to some friends party. I couldnt join but he insisted a bit. He invited another time but I had already a plan and he did everything to push me to cancel it and join him. lol I didn't cancel…
Lately We met again at the same friends Place And the connection was awesome. Then We kept messaging each other every day, even from work.
He sends me messages also early in the morning and before to sleep..
So today I proposed him to meet for a drink at the market (casual Sunday) but he said he was just waking up and that he feels lazy….. and that after he has his football meet.

Ok. So How should I understand his behavior…? Is he afraid to stay alone with me?

Sounds like he's a guy who enjoys his Sunday watching/playing football. That's common of many guys. Try asking him to do something with you on a day other than Sunday.

No he is interested this is not the problem. But maybe he is afraid to stay alone with me? That would explain why he tries to meet me with other people around

Uh, you are reaching. He isn't interested. What you suggest isn't something that would stand in his way. Other people being around isn't some magic force field. If he were THAT shy he wouldn't even be at those gatherings. Perceived shyness is given WAY too much weight, and used as a social excuse to the point of exhaustion.
